Default tailight problem....

I know this topic has been beat to death but here's my dilemma. Car is a 94 SC 300. Tailight indicator light is on dash. I pulled the tailight and 4 of the 1156 bulbs were very dim, so I put in 4 new 1156 bulbs, brake light and reverse light were fine when I pulled the tailight. Lights all come on but are still very dim, also everytime I press on the brake my right blinker comes on, Im assuming thats telling me something on the right side is out?

-One more issue not sure what this is related too but the reverse indicator light on the gear selector plate is always on even when Im in drive. Any ideas?

1) I think a wire is being pinched/severed and it is grounding out.
2) Water is possibly pooled somewhere, and it is causing a short w/ some wires.

Have you installed anything new lately?

i think you have the bulbs switched, u may have one of the brake light bulbs in the signal spot and vise versa, try turning ur signal on and see where it lights up

No nothing new has been installed, car was just recently purchased.

I may have the bulbs switched, I'll have to double check that, IIRC when the blinker was on 4 of the bulbs were blinking. Other two were the reverse and brake light does that sound correct?

I agree, wires probably pinched or shorting with the blinker wire somehow. The blinker bulbs are seperate and are not part of the taillight warning system. It isn't telling you that the right side bulbs are out, but it is an indicator that the wiring on the right side is messed up somewhere. Use an ohm meter to determine which wires are the culprit.

You may have a high resistance problem in the wires if the lights are dim. Check the wires if they are corroded.

I would check all the sockets for rust.. if you have condensation in any of the taillights you may have rust problems in the sockets. if so you need to change the sockets out.. I used some from an old Camary.

yeah thats sounds like a wiring issue a visual check is always the best look at all the wires if you have to pull tape off or sheilding do it and in most casing you can see what is wrong if not ohm test make sure the key is off and make sure all the circuits are good i got a service manual off ebay and its a toyota one on disk and its really good you can look at the diagrams there and itll help you chase the problem
