Unhappy really BAD idiling problem

so what could it be? im thinking it has either to do w/ the MAF sensor or the throtle postion sensor. it never usee to be a big deal but now its really bad. it wont start if ive been driving awhile and the car is warm/hot. and when i pull up to a light to stop i have to keep the motor reving high. and today it started kinda sputering while i was driving???? it never did that before it was always fine once i got going down the road and ther was air flowing.
so am i on track w/ the MAF or am i missing something else?
i have a new MAF coming tomorrow, b/c the screen thats in it fell out.
any help guys,,PLEASE!!!!
Jc

i got more pics coming of my CARNE digital ignition and short shifter!!
yeah where did the gallerys go?

I tend to think that you are having problems with the throttle position sensor. I had to replace mine. In my case, the engine would die when going from high RPMS to idle. Also, I believe the bad MAF would cause Engine codes.

Is your Crane ignition already installed? I had an ignition box go bad and it had extreemely similar symptoms. I mean to a TEE! If possible, bypass the box(s) and see if symptoms persist.

Check the connections on the MAF, and test the O2 sensors.

Look for intake leaks- cracked intake snorkle, loose vac line, bad gasket, poped off hoses, etc.

it was doing it before i had the CRANE installed. the ignition actually helped a little it gave it more spark when it would idle low.
ok i think ill go ahead and order a throttle position sensor as well.
but please dont stop with ur thoughts on what the problem is im still not sure.
thnx guys

I had an intermittent problem with my idle a few months ago. The car would have difficulty maintaining an idle and when I attempted to accelerate, the engine would simply sputter and I would barely move forward. Sometimes the engine would not start or the engine would sputter out and die. It would happen at anytime, but seemed more prone to trouble when it was hot or had just been running. It turned out to be a bad fuel pump. the fuel pump was replaced and I have not had any problems since.

Good luck.

thanx, there is something elese i will look into. but it doesnt sputter off the line. it is just when it is sitting still like at a light. and i can stop it from shutting off, if i keep my foot on the gas and keep the revs up to around 2k, it sputters while its up there , but it doesnt die.
i also had someone tap the MAF housing while ther car was idiling and it would make the car idle right for a few seconds.
is there any way to tell if its bad for sure like a diagnostic test at lexus or anything like that, where they could hook it up to there machines.
thanx again guys

Post check with vom

I'll check later, there is a test procedure in the manual.

You do have the lexus manual? Right?

I suggest to all to get these, go and order from your dealers. Great resource with two volumes.
