Sure you can. That grill is just an insert and is removeable. As a matter of fact, you have to buy it seperately anyway. I'm sure your body shop can install a mesh grill in it's place.

I personally love the way the factory grill looks on my 97. I think its very classy.

However, I have seen what you are looking for available on Ebay.

I wouldn't do it, but thats just me.

Or do you mean cut out the grill as in cut out a hole in an older 92-94 bumper and place the 98 grill in?

yea i know about the 97 bumper... im debating on gettin one of those stock with the grille orrrrrr keep my 93 bumper and put the mesh at the bottom where its supposed to be a grille (pre 97 model bumper) Actually under the bumper like under where the liscence plate goes not on the top where the 97 grille is supposed to be

When I repainted my front bumper myself, I went ahead and cut out the "cross" thing in the middle and installed black plastic mesh behind the big hole. It came out really good and updates the front end to a 95-96 style. Heres the only pic I can find that shows what Im talking about

oh that's what you mean.... Wouldn't cutting that part out leave little rivet holes?
I know some sc's have a plastic peice that fits in there, perhaps cutting the "cross" part out on the bumper and using the piece from the other type of bumper will work?

pics of what i mean...

Yea, there will be "holes" left over, but not from rivets. Instead it will be the area where the cross meets the sides, and you have to cut out those areas and that will leave holes. Since I was painting my bumper anyway, I just fiberglassed over the backside of those areas, then put bondo on the frontside and painted over, now you cant even tell
