Cool

Hi Guys and Gals,

My mph needle went dead for awhile and I'm sick of only seeing the nice red needle for the tach. I'm interested in fixing the non working needle. I know that the dealer is selling it for a 'arm and 2 legs'.

Anyone have good ideas, leads, HACKS, ANY info at all.

Is the needle replaceable? Is this all one unit?

thanks,
moe

Default aftermarket speedo's?

Would it be cheaper to buy an aftermarket speedo? like an Autometer that reads to 250mph or something similar... or go cheapo and get a sparco or no-name brand.

Your local auto store should have it next to the oil pressure and temp gauges.

Toan.

The needle is replaceable, but short of buying a whole new gauge from the dealer, you will need to find one from a wrecked car that is known working condition.

We usually have these on hand, but right now we only have the smaller temp/fuel ones.

Depending on how much you are willing to spend on one I can maybe go find one for you.

Todd...

I'd like to buy one of the smaller needles...

Fuel needle is flickering in the center section.

Can you e-mail me your asking price?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has thought of painting the burnt out needles with blacklight reactive paint and putting a couple of small blacklight bulbs inside the instrument cluster. All the C5 corvettes have this type of lighting from the factory and it looks pretty cool and bright. It would be easy to do since the blacklights would be 12v and the dash lights that are in the cluster are already 12v and even the dimmer would work. Just and Idea I thought I would share with everyone. I would try it on my own sc400 but my needles are still working great (crossing fingers). Hope this helps guys.

Guess what,
Today, my rpm needle started to follow in the foot steps of mph needle. Well I'm glad that I did not fix the needles then have the other one go out on me......But now I have too worry about fixing two leds instead of one..

These needle failures seem to be heat related. Mine failed on the first really warm day of the year. It also works fine when cold, but flickers out when it heats up.

Eventhough I have an extra instrument cluster in order to change my needles if they ever go bad (which I'm sure they will) Ever since I heard of this problem I always keep the dash lights in the lowest dimmest setting...
