leave the wastegate open to the atmosphere. Theres nothing like the sound of a wastegate opening under full boost.

Default dump pipe to atmosphere

Hey! When your car's just idling in Park, do you hear noise comming from the dump pipe? Is there suppose to be noise, or should there be no noise at all because the wastegate is fully shut?

No, your wastegate shouldn't open up until the proper boost setting is reached.

Mine is plumbed to the exhaust. To the atmosphere is loud, obnoxious, and annoying, IMO.

Having had both (my T78 Supra with open wastegate) and now my SP71 re-circulated, I would NEVER go open wastegate again!!!!! The sound is cool for about the first week and then it just gets annoying. Let alone its impossible to get on it without drawing a huge amount of attention to you, that means cops too!

It comes down to personal preference. I like quiet, thats why I opted for the re-circ.

Don't you guys get a canary from the defect police for having wastegates venting out into the atmosphere? Even blow off valves here in Australia are illegal if venting into the atmosphere (apparently)... but then again nearly everything is illegal here in Australia

I had a atmo dump. It kinda sounds cool. But I guess when I do it again I'll run it back into the exhaust. I have heard DSM's pick up like 20HP but going atmos dump though?????

So, true. If I were to ever redo my set-up I would re-circulate it. Plus the turbo sound is a lot nicer. It is funny though watching people almost break their necks to see what and where the sound is coming from on a open wastegate.

I had atmo on the All-Trac with a deltagate from Turbonetics.

Pros: Sounds like a pissed freight train at full boost.
Cons: Sounds like a pissed freight train at full boost.

The sound is purely raw and diabolical. Hard to describe but at the least it's menacing and intimidating. Full boost thru underpasses and tunnels is pure goosebumps. Fully boosted in an underground parking garage got the cops called on me.

It's a fun noise, if you like that sort of thing. Personally, my 4-cylinder days are OVER and I'm more for a quiet comfy ride so if the SC goes turbo that for sure goes recirc.

Then again, atmo Supras release a sound that's just stirring. Of course, after the 4th time I'm sure it would get annoying.

Depends on your style. You like loud fart can Civics? Go for atmo. In a luxo Lexus, go recirc for comfort.

Also keep in mind that atmo removes some exhaust volume that has to exit thru the car's exhaust so there's less restriction. And as with any turbo application, any less exhaust restriction, is GOOD. Obviously gains depend on exhaust size, routing, and muffler selection. If you have a full 4 inch exhaust, I don't see any gains going atmo. If you're wheezing thru a stock system, then yes, you'll see some gains.
