Default tein cs coilover question

is the edfc unit really neccessary?
- is it just a gimmick or-is this a unit that is actually worth the purchase?
-is it a major installation to install the edfc unit after the coilovers have already been installed?and can you do this install yourself?

for anyone with experience with this unit, what are your personal opinions on this product? worth the extra bucks or not?also.... where did you have the installers mount the unit?
where do you recommend would be the best place to mount the edfc?

for those that are not familiar, here are the details of the unit fromTEIN:
http://www.tein.com/edfc.html

thanks for any and all input on this particular subject!

I have the Tein CS and was debating whether or not to get the EDFC. After thinking about it, i have no use for it. I do not go to the track nor do I drive heavy loads. I don't adjust my settings often, probably about 1-2 times a YEAR! for me, it wasn't worth it. Just adjust it until you find a setting that will make you happy no matter the road condition. Cool gadget though....

hope this helps...

It really depends on what your needs are. Do you plan on changing the dampening settings multiple times? It does not even have to be everyday/every week/... You can change the settings manually almost as easily.

I like it because I have different diving settings depending on who is in the car. I may be able to deal with the non-stock ride but not all my passengers do. I like being able to change the settings without popping the hood and crawling into my trunk. Is that worth the money to you? It is to me but everyone is different.

As for installation, you do it after the coilover install anyway. It is just a matter of breaking up the install time. Do both now or do one then the other later. Installation is relatively straight-forward. You basically have the control unit, the four motors, and the four cables that connects the unit and motor together. If you are able to run the cables through the car to the control unit, you're done with phase 1. Then you just need to mount the motors and then wire up the control unit. I think there are 4 wires (ground, accessory power, illumination power, and "always on" power). If you are comfortable in doing what is described, then you can do it yourself.

I will leave the info on where to install to the members with an SC.

D, I had a chance to try out the EDFC on a GS a few months back and it does work very well. There were 3 of us in the car and we could all feel the difference between settings.

The thing is, i dont know how often you would change it to warranty the extra cost, installation, etc of the unit.

As someone else said, maybe if you took your car to the track or whatever, but since we are just street guys, maybe put the coils on, drive around for a few months and re-evaluate the EDFC!

well, i will be installing this unit myself... (i'm very familiar with tearing up the whole interior to install wiring, etc for other stuff). ok guys... follow me on this one-I am considering taking this edfc unit apart to have it work with the stock Ls400 ride control switch (normal/sport switch),mount the switch to the console(in a stock location-probably right under the traction control or heated seats switch)and then hide the edfc unit out of view in the trunk-mounted on top/or above the gastank, run the wiring back to the stock Ls400 ride control switch and voila!("normal" on the switch would be the saved setting on the edfc unit, the "sport"mode would also be a saved setting)...you know me and custom work- i know, i know,i'm over the top with mine! ,but i think it would be a worthwhile project..the outcome would be extraordinary!
anybody with me on this? ....it's time to call O.L.T.!!!!

Next, I think that is a hot idea...would you take a step-by-step account of this install? It would be good to add to the library as a tech article. I would even host it on my website.

Let me know

anyone know where i can get that little switch from a lexus eqipped with adjustable ride control? it has the settings "norm" and "sport" with a strut symbol on it...someplace other than the dealer- they probably would want to sell me the whole center console.
(update)it looks like this project is a go!- i don't think it will take much for the switch to work with this unit...so, as soon as i can find that switch, i will be getting started-if anyone is inquiring about the reason for the stock switch,i chose the stock switch to make everything appear very stock.....wish me luck

Good luck man I can't wait to see the finished results. I've seen some of your other modifications, definitely top-notch.
