Default Clock Hands Move

I got my car last July. I didn’t notice until we “fell back” (time change from DST to standard time) that the clock hands move automatically. It did this the first time I started the car after the time change. But oddly, it continues to do this each time I start the car. Apparently the hands don’t move when the engine is off. I could swear nothing like this happened before the time change. What’s going on here?

You are likely just paying more attention. I had the same experience after the time change, and now I look at the clock frequently when starting the RX. (As if I needed another OCD experience....) A little testing shows that the clock hands DO keep accurate time while the vehicle is off, at least for a few hours, which is the limit of my test process. Starting the vehicle makes the minute hand move forward a quarter turn or so, then go backward to the correct time. It has the appearance of a self-test on startup, akin to all the dash lights flashing during the start process.

My 2017 does NOT behave that way. They move when you turn on or off the DST setting in the clock settings. Never when car is started.

My old RX was a ‘17 as well. Correct; that car had buttons to manually change the clock. The 2020 is synched to something (satellite radio or cell phone signal) and automatically sets the time.

I’m not exactly sure what’s going on. Which is the point of this list.

I’m ashamed to admit I’ve never looked at the time on the analog clock. I always look at the time on the digital clock in the cluster. Yeah I’m spoiled by the digital life even when I wear a analog watch I look at my cell to see what time it is and I badly miss my I watch.

This short video clip shows the clock behavior on the 2020. The vehicle hadn't been driven in 12+ hours. The clock, as you can see, showed the correct time, but did a hand dance during the vehicle start process.

Is it possible that the 2020's default is according to GPS? There is such an option in the 2017 as well, I suppose for those travelling through several time zones.
