Default Touch Screen Upgrade?

Hey guys! New here, and have spent the last few hours reading through posts, trying to learn more about aftermarket options and recommendations.

A little background- my previous car was a Q50 with all the packages, including this that I miss most: dual touchscreens, 360-view camera, fully wrapped heated steering wheel. Now I am pretty sure that I cannot get the fully wrapped heated steering wheel (that I know of-correct me if I am wrong please), and that the 360-view camera would be either ridiculously expensive if done right, or poor quality if done DIY with parts from Amazon.

So that leads me to the one thing that I think is possible: the touchscreen upgrade. I had my car serviced yesterday, and the loaner was a 2020 RX, with the same 12.3" screen, which is what got me thinking of putting on in my car. Here is where I am looking for help. I found a few threads discussing android box upgrades to the actual head unit, but not much relating to the actual screen itself. Hopefully someone (or a few people) will provide feedback on these. So far I have only found two options:

https://www.dvdgpsnav.com/blog/lexus...oid-head-unit/
http://smarty-trend.com/lexus-rx-iv-...head-unit.html

Now I do understand that the 2020 screen is closer, and I actually have long enough arms where reaching to the screen in my 16RX wouldn't be difficult. (Since not everyone is in my situation, that is maybe why there aren't too many on the market). But if anyone has experience with these, or maybe some others that can be recommended, I would really appreciate it!

I'm not trying to be a Debby downer, but you'd have to get that screen from Lexus and you're talking a list price of $11k! On Lexus parts now dot com, the selling price is a bit over $8k. Additionally, you'd never recoup that when it comes time to replace the vehicle, and you might actually negatively affect the value because of the custom application. My advice is take that money and roll it into the 2020 RX if you really need that screen. Your throwing money down a hole...

Thanks Jugdish. The two links I posted are for both the screen AND head unit, and the cost at each site is ~$600 for the combo. I think the fact that they are so cheap should be enough of a red flag unfortunately.

Again, I appreciate the reply and info.

Thanks Kmare. I did see a few posts mentioning that they were Android users vs. iPhone users. But way more iPhone folks. Did you recall seeing anyone that ended up getting new screens with touchscreen capabilities? I could not find any, but going through 1000+ posts, I could have definitely missed that being discussed.

Default Convert Infotainment to Touchscreen

Has anyone successfully converted a 2016-2019 RX non-touchscreen infotainment navigation, to the 2020 RX touchscreen infotainment navigation? If so, please share tips and advice.

Lexus' part pricing is astronomical and given what you can purchase for double DIN replacements by names such as SONY, Panasonic, Alpine and others, Lexus' part replacements borders on ridiculous. I would also caution that if you were to go aftermarket your existing Lexus factory warranty or extended warranty might be in jeopardy.

^ This. Even with the closer placement of the screen in the '20, I use the touchpad as often than the touchscreen, especially for things that don't require fine motor skills. It's a decent reach to the screen without leaning forward. A touchscreen on '19 and earlier models would require a prosthesis.

Thanks for posting this BriGuy, that first link you put up is very interesting. Not just a touch screen but has android auto and a wifi module. Seems like a better idea than the converting boxes where you have to take half the interior out to install.

I too can easily reach my screen if I it was a touchscreen. I actually don't mind the mouse thing, but would like Google maps integrated. And this seems like a pretty good option.

I will look into it as well, but I will probably make sure my warranty is up for electronics. I think is, I think I just have 2 years left on mechanical.

Again, great post. Something to dig into, if I come up with any new relevant info I will post it here.
Edit: I see its an old post, but wanted to bring back up incase there is new info anyone could add.

Any updates? I’m still interested in Apple CarPlay with touchscreen in my 16 RX350 non nav 8” display. I know there are Grom units and other companies that can add CarPlay but for a couple extra hundred I can have 12” touchscreen display. My 2 concerns are mainly 1) quality of the touchscreen display 2) customer service and warranty feedback if needed. Just adding CarPlay to an 8” display may not be the best bang for my buck, but clearly something has to be upgraded whether just adding CarPlay or CarPlay and bigger display

I think the cheapest way is buying android head unit from China for $400
Question is how are you going to reach the screen especially during driving?

Hey, sorry I haven't done much follow up on this. Life kinda distracted me. I am still interested in this mod, but haven't looked into it enough yet. I too want to make sure that if I do it, I get a decent quality set up that will last.

I see a post above with a new option. I'll look into it. There were enough RXs sold that third party options seem to still be growing.

If I make moves on this I will post.
