Default Radar question

Does the RX come with radar in the rear bumper on the very base model? We dont want the cross traffic / auto braking features, but do like the sensors that detect before backing into something...

You can just turn off RCTA in the instrument cluster menu.

Thanks - we're trying to build a relatively base model - we want the simplest, most reliable and quietest highway cruiser and after owning so many high tech german etc. cars are tired of all their issues. So, restating the question, does anyone know if the very lowest base model RX comes with radar sensors in rear bumper?

My 2017 RX350 has what's called "Intuitive Parking Assist", which I think is what you're looking for. It's listed as an option on mine, so no, it's not standard. At least on 2017s.

The option is "Intuitive Park Assist" to have sensors in the front and bumpers. It appears it's part of the package with RCTA, etc. I believe it may have been a stand-alone once but best to ask the dealer rather than rely on the configurator, The brochure online also shows it packaged.

Just spoke to dealer - base model does NOT have radar sensors - you must get the full blown system. Even base model Kias have this stuff - I'm surprised how they cheap out on some standard features at Lexus, but instead make you get some package that has all sorts of things you may not want.

This pkg is now standard on all Lexus/Toyotas, but let's face it Lexus isn't really interested in selling base models, they are there solely so they can say starting from....
Why would you not then buy a loaded Toyota highlander for the same price? Same engine, chassis and tranny.

Don't compare vehicles made by Toyota with German cars. I've owned a variety of European cars including S-class, E-class and SL Mercedes and their reliability was sh!+ compared to anything made by Toyota whether it's branded as Lexus or Toyota.

The parking sensors you want use sonar instead of radar - not that it really matters. Parking sensors are a wonderful feature but I recommend that you also get the Blind Side Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) which are radar based. Those are wonderful, reliable features and we will never ever buy another vehicle without them.

All vehicles manufactured by Toyota have standard automatic emergency braking. It's also a very reliable. All our current vehicles have it.
