Default Eco Mode Doesnt Stay On

Hi,

I am new to the forum and had a question regarding the last campaign update for the 2018 RX in the summer of 2019. After bringing it in for the software update, I notice when I switch it over to Eco-Mode, it is suppose to stay in that mode until I change modes. However, sometimes I start up my RX and it will go to D mode even though I didn't switch it off Eco mode when I turned off the car. Just wondering if anyone had the same issue after the software update. Thank you.

Ask the service manager if the battery was disconnected for 30 minutes after the software update. If it was not that most likely is the cause of this problem. Better yet, go directly to the guy who did the update and ask him.

Actually, your RX is behaving EXACTLY as the 2018 Owner's Manual describes the operation. When you shut off the engine and then restart, the mode restarts in the Normal mode. My 2018 works the same way. Try reading the Owners Manual when you are confused by how your car's systems work--it contains a wealth of information.

Okay thanks for the info. I looked at my owner's manual but I didn't see any information saying when you shut off the engine, while in Eco mode, that it reverts back to Normal mode. It only stated that happens when in Sport or Customize modes where it will revert back to Normal mode. Do you know what page this information is on? Thank you.

My '18 does persist in ECO mode, and the manual has this statement, which does not include ECO:

■ Automatic deactivation of sport mode and customized mode
If the engine switch is turned off after driving in sport mode or customized mode, the
drive mode will be changed to normal mode.

Customized mode is when you select ECO on the climate screen or have the adaptive suspension, I believe, looking at the customized features page.

Really? Because my 2019 RX350 will revert back to normal mode after restarting the car ONLY when it was in Sport mode. If the car was in Eco mode when I turned it off it will still be in Eco mode when I restart it.

I'm under the impression that's how my 2017 RX350 works. I always use Sport and have to select it each time I start it. Don't recall using ECO so not sure what that does on startup.

If you turn off the car while in ECO mode, it should restart in ECO, just like all other Lexus products.

I seem to remember a thread about this previously on the RX. I'll have to search.

Yep, mine starts in ECO when I leave it in ECO.

It reverts to the last setting before being turned-off except for sport (damn it)

I'm pretty sure you can set whether it defaults back to normal or stays in Eco Mode after restart in TIS. I don't see it in LPS though so could be wrong. Unfortunately, there was no setting to have it hold sport mode upon restart (I looked for this when I had the cable connected).

Oops! I obviously misread the manual. My bad, sorry.

I've only used ECO mode once (on the freeway) and can't say that I actually noticed any difference. OTOH, I like SPORT mode.
