Unhappy

Just got my 98GS300 about 3 weeks ago and still learning the ropes. My question is if it safe to press the power switch (on the fly) when needed? i.e. merging to interstates, passing on a two way highway. I'm not sure if its in the manual or probably just overlooked it. Thanks for the info.

All power mode does is make the transmission change gear at a higher RPM. It holds it longer so it won't lose time when you change gears. I think someone mentioned that it eats up more gas, but not by much.

cgatch, it is also safe to switch back and forth on the fly, but why bother? I leave mine in "power" all the time, as I do with my wife's RX. As DIESEL pointed out, it only changes transmission's shift points for a given throttle input/gas pedal position. But if you have your foot on the floor, it won't matter........you'll shift at redline or close to it till you take your foot out of it.

Hope this helps.
