Default Oil Change

Will shortly be doing an oil change on my RX350, since Lexus did the previous one free. Plan on buying filter at Toyota-
I assume the cartridge they sell comes with the seals, but does it include the plastic drain device? If not, and I have to buy one, is it reusable? Will a need a special tool to remove the cartridge housing? I have various devices I have used to remove canned filters. Hoping one of those will work.
Thanks,
R Wyle

It does contain the plastic drain device. There is a special removal tool. I buy my filters from Lexus Parts World. They are $4.50 and use promo code cl5 for a 10% discount. I take my Mobil 1 bought at Walmart and filter from Lexus Parts World to my local Toyota dealer who charges me $25 labor.

What's the best oil filter I can use for extended performance? I like to use Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil. I wasn't able to find appropriate Mobile 1 oil filter, and I don't think OEM will last.

PS Found Mobil 1 Extended Performance Filter

Has Anyone used these before?

where did you see that the M1C-251A filter works on the 4RX?? tried checking the mobil1 site and their application guide.

As for Mobil 1 filters in general - always been happy with them and the reviews seem to be good.. i would not expect any differently for this product.

I tried both and change my oil once a year or every 10k, whichever comes first. I ended up sticking with the Toyota A1 filters because it has more pleats than the Mobil. I do however use Mobile Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20, but apparently there is very little difference between full synthetics according to recent studies for low mileage oil changes.

Years ago we had a demo with various filter companies. The brands that were consistently the best were the ones that dealers sold as their recommended brand to use. The Fram was by far the worst followed by some other big brand names. Since then I have stuck with dealer recommended filters. Less hassle, no warranty issues and usually priced the same.

This sort of falls into how often to change the oil, what oil etc...Do what works for you as it's kind of a "feel good" thing.

Do you guys think that OEM Filter will last at least 12,000 miles with Mobile 1 Extended Performance oil (or similar) ? I know it can def last 10,000, as it does now, right?

It depends on your driving conditions, but if you are a normal driver I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you drive in dusty areas, mountain passes, etc. then you need to be more worried about what your filter is catching. Just pull out the filter at 12k and judge for yourself, your engine won't be destroyed if you want to be a little lazy.
