Lexus oil change: $40-$50

Another way:

1. Buy name-brand oil yourself: ~$5/oil change.

2. Buy quality filter: Nippondenso "made in Japan" OEM filter($7.25 for 90915-20004 from Carson Toyota), Purolator PureOne from PepBoys ($5.99), or "made in USA" OEM filter (supposedly made by Purolator, and the one Lexus decided to use at my last oil change...costs $2.99 at Melody Toyota. Lexus invoice said $13.99 hahaha)

3. Pay a local place labor-only and watch them do the oil change: $8-$10.

Total cost: $16-$22

Advantages:
Guaranteed parts quality, considering that many Lexus dealers no longer use the higher quality (and more expensive) Japanese Denso oil filter.

Convenience - local shop may be a lot closer than Lexus dealer.

Price

Disadvantages:
No Lexus waiting area...no bottled water, no capuccino machine, no cookies, no mini-driving range (varies by dealer)

Having to buy your own parts, although buying enough for 3 oil changes should make it less of a hassle.

No quickie car wash

As for tire rotation, I hear some places do it for free. Otherwise, I don't think it's more than $10-$15. Lexus charges $40-50. Just make sure they hand-torque it to 76 ft-lb. Does the Lexus dealer do that? Beats me. I can't see my car when they're servicing it.

So...total cost for oil change/tire rotation with assurred quality (you're watching them) can be as low as $16 vs. $100 at the Lexus dealer.

Same number filter from Toyota dealer as Lexus = $5.98.
I use Mobil one. Sam's club or fleet farm.

Do it myself. Takes less time than driven to and from Lexus and waiting.

I took my own oil to my dealer, and got a total bill for ~$23. Passed on the car wash, of course.
