I'm a traveling rap and put on an insane amount of miles on my cars. I usually average 100K - 110K miles per year. I'm looking to purchase a comfortable highway cruiser that would get me through an occasional snowy day in the winter time. I plan to keep the car for at least three years. That would put at least 300 K miles on the odometer. Any suggestions as to whether 2016 - 2017 RX 350 would be up to such a task without any major repairs?
I'm also a rep, but only put 1/3 the miles on that you do. That being said... I used to only own Lexus (GX 460's) Put over 100k miles on both with zero major issues. Then I went to Infiniti and ended up getting rid of the QX60 @ 65k miles due to issues and recently owned a BMW X5. X5 was an awesome ride, but definitely not a keeper past the warranty. I'd say your best bet is Lexus for long term reliability, but 300k miles may be a stretch, for any automaker....

I think anyone on this forum will say that if any car can survive that many miles it would be a properly maintained Lexus. I own a '17 RX and a '14 ES (and have owned one of each type for nearly 20 years). For long highway drives I would clearly recommend the ES over the RX. I love my new RX but the ES still beats it for a comfortable highway drive. Gas mileage is clearly better (I get about 30 mpg vs 26 mpg on the highway and about 24 vs 19 for in-town driving). And for the occasional snowy day (in NJ) the ES with all-season tires is fine.
Here's my thoughts...properly maintained, 300k would be no problem. Think about it this way, many New York Taxis are Toyota Highlanders which is more or less a RX. Those things a proven everyday in NY so I expect a well maintained RX to last really long. That said, I personally feel the hybrid would last the longest, even given the battery.
Forget about getting a new. Get a new job!
At 100,000 miles a year, you're doing more than 400miles a day(working day). If your average speed is 60MPH, that's over 6 hours spent behind the windshield per day. That is not good for your health.
I would never buy other than Lexus if I were going to be putting those kind of miles on. You will spend the least amount of down time in service with a Lexus and with your schedule, it will be a great vehicle to own. Highway miles are gravy for vehicles compared to the stop and go traffic most encounter. Your 300k miles is really equal to about 150k is wear.
I would also get the luxury version as you're going to need super comfy seats for those long drives.
I've got the Luxury and cannot believe how uncomfortable and hard the seats are! I kid you not, my **** gets sore from driving over 60 miles. I am seriously considering taking the RX to an auto upholstery shop to see if they can change the padding on the bottom seat. Just for kicks, I sat in an MDX earlier in the week and couldn't believe how much nicer that seat felt. Really miss the multi-contour seats of my X5....
I disagree with this statement. Having moved from a non-hybrid to a hybrid I find that my hybrid fared 5.68MPG better (26.81MPG vs 21.13MPG) on long highway trips.
This is comparing only road-trip mileage between the two cars using over 7000 miles of data, both using the same premium fuel.
