This is comparing only road-trip mileage between the two cars using over 7000 miles of data, both using the same premium fuel.
With highway driving at around 65 mph, I've been getting about 26 mpg with regular fuel in my '17 non-hybrid.. With premium here about 20% more expensive than regular, your 21 mpg on premium in your non-hybrid is cost-wise equivalent to about 25 mpg on regular fuel, not much different from your hybrid mileage (which frankly does sound a bit on the low side)

His non-hybrid is a 2010 which has lower MPG than the newer model 2016/2017.
I'm doing 23.7MPG mainly highway on premium gas which is actually better than my '15 GS of 22.8MPG. But I also don't drive my RX like my GS.

Both cars are driven by me, in the same fashion. Assuming the 4RX has average over 2MPG over the 3RX, we are still looking at 26.81MPG vs 23.13MPG (+2MPG). That makes a dent over 300K miles for the OP.

However hybrid buyers aren't paying for primarily gas savings. There is a whole host of other features that makes the hybrid more appealing, especially if you drive as often as the OP. For example, right now the only way to know for sure that you'll avoid the vibration of the non-hybrid is to get the hybrid.

I just checked diesel prices in a cheaper part of town in Los Angeles. 87 Octane =$2.87/gallon. Diesel $2.52/gallon.

Yes California prices suck...

I put 230,000 miles on a V6 camry and drive about 25000 miles per year. ran synthetic oil in the car and it proved to be bullet proof. Only a radiator failure in those years. I am moving to lexus for better comfort.. I think it will be fine if you stay on top of the maintenance.!

My RX is not more comfortable than a toyota , you maybe thinking of the ES which is much better highway beast
