Hey y'all. My mechanic says our 2017 RX needs a new motor mount - but that they are apparently on nationwide back order. I am weary of buying an aftermarket mount.
Is there a known issue with the motor mounts? I didnt find anything TSB or recall related. And if you know where I can get a motor mount would be great.
Any help is appreciated.

I would have no problem with installing an aftermarket one. After all, Toyota didn’t actually manufacture the original , it was made by a third party to their specs. Check Rockauto for prices.

You never said how many miles were on the car. If it's over 200,000 then anything can happen but I would definitely get a second opinion from another shop before spending any money.
Please dont buy an aftermarket mount of any kind, as they usually are poorly designed, cut corners (ie if the OEM is liquid filled aftermarket will instead use a solid bushing) and will end up with a NVH level similar to that of what you have now in the compromised OE.
Do the job once, cry once on these, but try to purchase it now during Sierra Toyota or other online dealer who has a coupon code for OE Parts.
Now for the vibration, these tend (not specifically your complaint) to have a weird harmonic flutter if you search the forum. Needs a noise damper on the exhaust if memory serves me correctly?

I would be very suspect of your mechanic saying that these motor mounts are on nationwide back order. Why would they be? Like you said, there is no TSB or other documentation pointing out motor mount problems.

I have hard time with replace the motor mount. The Lexus and Toyota drive up to 180 200K. But if you need to replace them (do all of them) and buy original.
Sorry. It has 80k miles on it. It has a strange vibration/rattle between 1600-1800 rpm. My shop is very reputable. They found the engine mount worn out ( I need to ask which one).

Are you sure this is a motor mount issue, and not the exhaust drone & vibration so many of us have in that rpm range?

Turn the engine on and rpm to 2500 see if vibration is there.

A motor mount worn out at 80,000 miles is not normal. It could be a symptom of an underlying problem, possibly a faulty part or not installed correctly from the factory (rare occurrence).
