My RX has Code P0012
Check engine light, pulled the code with a fairly rudimentary older OBD - it only shows that one code P0012.
I am wondering if this is common to our engines in the 3rd gen?
If any of you have 'been there, done that' please give me some guidance.
The oil system seems to be fine - oil consumption is very low, oil level is right at the fill line, all done on time every time. I am assuming the sensor involved here has to be internal somewhere, so not subject to dust/elements directly. So probably nothing to clean up to help the situation. It has only done this once, this week, mileage around 117K.
When was the oil changed last? Miles and months? What did they put into the engine? Type of oil and weight? An oil and filter change may help.
I suggest you have someone with better equipment check the stored codes.

All good. I do it, Mobil 1 full, new filter media, less than 2k
The usual next step if oil is clean, test and/or replace the VVT oil control valve / solenoid (assuming the problem is simply a stuck or defective valve, not an electrical issue).
These should help you learn how to clean and or replace VVT oil control valve although most are for the oil line, it should help you find the valve and the 4 cylinder videos show how to clean the valve.
