Just replaced a 2010 RX350 with a 2013. Unlike the 2010 the headlights do not shut off automatically after 30sec. They remain on with a warning buzzer and display message to turn off. They will turn off in auto mode but not when in the on mode. Is this something that can be re-programed? This is a pretty basic feature even for entry level cars and I can't beleive that Lexus would eliminate it.
Same here, only works in Auto. I agree that this is silly that it would not work in other modes, as it does on all previous vehicles.
I set mine to OFF instead of 30 sec so that I can see them turning off when the door is opened.
I wounder if it will let the battery drain in the ON position. Everything else in the car seems to be on a timer (really annoying when the radio turns off each 15 minutes and you're working on the car in the garage).
...I wounder if it will let the battery drain in the ON position.
From my reading of the 2013 technical differences, one of the lighting system improvements on the 2013 is "(3) The battery saving function has been added to prevent the auxiliary battery from discharging when the headlights or taillights are left on." I don't plan to try it myself, but the service information indicates we should be OK if we forget to turn the lights off.
No clue why Lexus made this change. I've had many Lexus/Toyota products over the last 15 years, and all of them shut the headlights off when they were set to ON, even our 2004 Prius which did not have automatic lights.
My 2013 GS has the same buzzer...
Our Jeep turns the headlights on when the wipers are on automatically, then shuts them off as if they had come on in AUTO mode. No clue why Lexus hasn't adopted that feature either.
Do DRLs count? Are they on in Auto mode for US vehicles?

Well it might cost you $44 to find out in NJ. That's how much the ticket is for not turning on the headlights with the wipers. The tail lights aren't on with the DRLs. Don't think so. I'd rather be seen on both ends. I'm pretty good when it comes to turning the headlights on or off manually. If I forget after I get out of the RX, I hit the lock button on the fob twice and they'll go out. I'm not sure if that changed on the '13.
