Smile Just updated...

Hi all - my first post in the 3rd gen forum. I've just bought an RX450h Luxury which I am rapidly falling in love with. The step up from my 2006 RX350 is very pleasing. I checked out a whole range of cars including Mercedes ML, BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Volkswagen Toureg etc, but none of them was as nice as my old Lexus, so I bought a new one.

It's in garnet with ivory interior - the paint looks spectacular in the sun!

The only downside I have seen so far is the real shortage of storage space. One tiny cubbyhole under the boot, with the valet pack and first aid kit stuffed in next to the spare tyre. The old one had tonnes of space under the boot floor.

Now I just have to fix the iPod connection in my old car and put it on the market.

Congratulations on your new ride! I totally agree with you on the lack of storage in the rear. Coming from a 2006 RX400h to the RX450h, I miss the extra storage areas on the side cargo area and around the spare tire! Enjoy your RX!

Oh yeah, I forgot! Be sure to check out the "secret" storage area in the center console under what at first appears as the bottom of that storage area. There is enough room under that false bottom panel to store your manuals and open up 100% of your glove compartment. ...one of the little benefits of the new 2013 console design.

Thanks Bert. The dealer had told me about the secret compartment but it's not big enough to fit the manuals unless I remove the false floor. Maybe Australians have bigger manuals?

The glove box is a mystery too - why do they have that stupid divider under the shelf, which means nothing can fit in there? The manual states that it can be removed (to change the cabin air filter) but it doesn't want to move - and I don't want to break it! Is there a particular way of lifting / sliding it?

Hey Paul. Yes, you have to remove the false bottom in the center console, but I have room then to slip both the 1000+ page owner manual and separate Nav manual under there. They slip forward under the remote controller area and are a tight squeeze, but my US versions do fit. It's not a good solution if you need to refer to the manuals, especially the first couple of weeks while you're hopefully diving into them and trying things out, but it works well for me to store them there and open up space in the console for my phone, sunglasses, and miscellaneous stuff. I keep a PDF version of the owners manual on my iPhone and can always go to the Lexus Owners site to search the manuals if I need to, vs having to remove them again for something quick.

Glove box. Yes, it's a bit strange on that divider. It's not very useful if you want to keep your manuals in there, so I initially removed it. The whole divider pulls out does -- takes a little bit of pressure pulling on the center shelf, but mine clicked out fairly easily once I knew what was suppose to move in there. It's got one or two tabs that sort of hook into the back of the glove box area. Fiddle with it a bit and you'll get comfortable with what to do or just ask your service person to show you next time you're at the dealership. After I put my manuals into the lower center console area, I put the divider back in. It's proven useful for when I have passengers with loose keys, sunglasses, etc to store them there.

Good luck! Bert

It's unfortunately not on the Lexus site (like most other mfgs provide), but I found one here for my 2013 RX450h interestingly enough, sans the cover, table of contents and index. There are manuals on that site for various other MY and models too. With a decent search mechanism as part of the PDF reader -- like GoodReader or iBooks on an iOS device (or probably similar on Android) or Acrobat Reader for Win or OSX, or OSX Preview, it works for me. It's sure better than only having the massive hardcopy manuals out in the vehicle stuck down in the cubby hold of my console, or the sorta odd search mechanism on Lexus Owners that I've been dependent upon until the last few weeks. Now my iPhone, iPad and Mac all have access to the manuals whenever I want them. Perfect.

BertL thanks for the link. Have you found a way to download the PDFs to your phone or do you just use the link.

NP. I use a Mac, but process should be the same if you use Windows. I download it first from the website, then use iTunes or other mechanisms like Dropbox to move it to my mobile devices.
