Maybe not drive less, but perhaps slower. Going into winter at $5 is going to hurt as hybrid mileage drops with the temperature.

Not really. About 95% of the mileage I put on the 450h is commuting to work. For the rest of the time I consolidate trips as much as possible. Temps have been well above normal this winter. MPG is up. So it lessens the rise in prices somewhat.

If $5.00+ for a gallon of gas is an issue, the CT might be a better alternative.

I think it might go to $5 per gal or more if things escalate with Iran but only for a while then come crashing back to maybe $3 plus for a norm. We're flush with oil and gas at the present, it's just the speculators bringing up the world price.

Wont stop me from driving as i use it to make a living. I used to pay $80 for about 450 km now with my 450H I get about 650K for $60 or so. This is waaaaaaaaaay better for me as I need it to make a living. My onboard screen says 7.9km per 100km with normal driving no hypermiling.

Not really, but on short trips (a mile or less) I'd take the IS which gets better mileage no matter what.

Well, gas is above $4.50 a gallon here in N. CA. I've noticed that I am averaging about 32 MPG on my current tank. At $5.00, I will not cut back. Since I am retired and drive only for pleasure, I may increase my mileage. Heck yeah!!! At those prices, I'm sure that there will be some great deals related to recreational travel. Plus, there will probably be fewer drivers on the roads ... both pluses for me, but bad for the economy. If things get really bad, I will just ride along with my daughter in her Prius ... she can get about 62 MPG.

EDIT: I don't want to leave the impression that I don't care about $5.00 gas. I do and worry about its effect on the overall economy which would directly affect me and my family in countless ways. I wish that more could have been done to support President Obama's push into green energy. I would like to see the US be a leader in the all areas of energy development. But, especially in ways to reduce our use of fossil fuels ... gee, I guess I'm starting to sound like a hybrid driver.

One simple change I made is to switch from Chevron to Arco. The stations are across the street from each other and Arco's prices are 20cents+ per gallon less than Chevron. Arco takes cash or debit card with a small fee. Hey, it all starts to add up...........

Not much impact for me because of several factors. I now buy at $3.57 less 6% with my AMEX Blue card. This RX350 gets 4 mpg better than the former Grand Cherokee. And we are past my retirement goals and looking at 125% of what I make working. So, no, $5 gas will not hurt me. Plus, prices always collapse after Labor Day, so the pain does not persist that long.

Arco is priced attractively in my area also, but I only use "Top Tier Gasoline" in my vehicles and Arco is not a member of that group. Here is what Top Tier Gas is about:

I have an oil well in the Bakken; so rising oil prices more than cover higher gas..plus, if I can afford a $50,000 vehicle I can afford $5 gas......If I didn't anticipate this; I would have driven a cheap Cadillac SRX!!
