Default It's a twin

Hello ALL,

After spending 2+ months looking at either an 08-09 Lexus GX470, an 09+ X5, or '10+ MDX.

GX470: I found few GX470s that have the options and miles I wanted but their used prices are way to high (due to the fact that they were sold not so many in these years) so I could not justify to spend $38-$40 for an 08-09 GX470 with 45K+ miles on it. I also bought a 2011 GX460 base (navi, hid, rear heated seats) with 12k miles on it for $50k. However I don't like to Satin exterior color so I passed on it.

MDX: Like the package but their transmission issues scared me. Some people with either the 5-speed or new 6-speed still the torque converter issue. 2012 MDX with Nav can be had for about $45k. I somehow did not push hard enough on this one.

X5: I REALLY like this SUV/SAV but a new one with the options I wanted will cost me about $68k. This is way more than I want to spend. Used are plenty but others warned me not to buy these performance SUVs used so I passed on.

Entering my twin. people might think that I am crazy to buy another same vehicle however I fell in love with it at the first time I saw it. It is nothing special but it is nice to me. We have owned the 3RX for about 2 years and love the way it drives, never had any problems, it looks OK, feel nice driving it and the dealer is so nice and so close by.

First, I said that I will not own another black car since it is hard to take care of; however, when I saw this black on black I said that I wanted it. It may sound stupid but the headlights that got me. I felt in love with the headlights.

Here are couple pics I took using my phone (meaning they are crappy.....)

Thank you. It is Obsidian, I guess

There is a button (looks like 4x4 locked) in my RX350 AWD, it's located closed to the heat/cool seats controller. There is not one for the h, what gives?

The 350 uses a transfer case to drive the rear wheels when its needed. The button locks the transfer case. The 450 uses the electric motors to drive the rears. If you want all the time driving of the back wheels they call it 'snow mode" and it is found on the settings on the right part of the steering wheel. It is normally AWD but only when the front wheels sense some slippage.

There is obsidian and starlight in the black. The starlight has gold flecks that shine through in the sunlight.

GoHuskers, congrats on your 450h. Black on black is one of the sweetest color combos with the LED headlights. They had a picture of one in the 2010 brochure spread over two pages that I absolutely drooled all over. I had to have it, at least the LEDs. Black is suicidal for a DD in my climate. I would if I could. Enjoy!

Black is beautiful. Love the headlight on 450. The mark of the devil just scares me though.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and explanation. Yes, the black on black with LED won me over because I will not buy another RX that is similar to the one I have now.

It's fun to look at the MID and ease the gas pedal so that just the battery is driving the wheels...only do that when no one is behind because people hate that I guess.

'The 350 uses a transfer case to drive the rear wheels when its needed.'

This is not true,Lexus did away with the transfer case for the 3Gen. It uses an electronic coupling that sits in front of the rear differential. More efficient.

Congrats on the twin. Two sharp looking RX's.

Is the Lexus label on the rear hatch of both your RXs original equipment in the US? Canadian spec cars haven't had it since 2011 model year and I thought they had dropped it in the US market cars as well.

Okay this is true but the end result is still the same and that is why there is no button on the 450h

Congrats! I wonder which car you will end up driving more?

also the RXh will be awed up to about 15mph or so and then automatically stop powering the rear wheels. Putting it in snow mode will keep it in awd till about 35

First, thank you for these technical stuffs. I know I will learn more from this site than reading the manual. I stopped reading books years ago. It stops the rear wheels but if front wheels detect slippage then the rear wheels will get power, right?

Second, the RXh is mine since my spouse said that she likes her red one. Also, she hates the black interior but since I love it so she lets me have it my way.

^^ I think you came out on top on that deal.

yeah if the front wheels begin to slip then the rear electric motor will start powering the rear wheels automatically
