Default stone or bug deflector

Has anyone on board purchased a stone or bug deflector? I am currently in the Mesa/ Phoenix area and I would like to find a bug deflector for our 10 RX. Last winter I tried many auto supply stores and no one had them available yet. Sewelll doesn't have them listed yet.
Thanks,
Jim

I have thought about it occasionally:

http://www.autofrills.com/index.php?...119#googlebase

http://compare.ebay.com/like/2508766...=sbar&_lwgsi=y

http://www.jcwhitney.com/bug-deflect...3m49j1s19.jcwx

But, the clear protection that is applied directly to the car is probably a better approach.

The ebay one is the only one I found that shows you what it looks like on the vehicle. As far as the clear bra you can get an idea of that here

I got a stone deflector for my 2011 installed at the dealer. It looks good on the car, is a Lexus (Canada) accessory and therefore comes with a factory warranty for four years. It cost $140 CDN (plus installation if you don't do it yourself). Too many people I know have had the 3M clear tape and had problems with peeling, yellowing, bubbles and the inability to keep the join at the edge between the tape and painted surface clean. It may work well in the warmer parts of the USA but not in our climate.

What areas does it cover? Is it just the hood above the grill/lights?

Hey< thanks for the information. I may just wait till I get back to Canada or order one from Auto frills.com. I wish I had installed one last year as I have a few stone chips right on the front of the hood. I really don't like the 3m treatment on the hood etc. I have seen it on many vehicles and it is very noticeable.
Thanks for the great info.

In my opinion, the clear bra is a far superior solution compared to hood deflector:
  • Will only protect front edge of hood, leaving entire front bumper and rest of hood unprotected.
  • Will become loose/rattle over time.
  • Gets in the way when washing the car.
  • If you think the clear bra looks bad, the hood deflector looks even worse!!!

If you do not like to see the clear bra line (if you look closely depends on the color of your car) in the middle of your hood, you can get it covered the whole hood. The cost could be doubled but you will be happy in the long run.

Weather is not a factor in how the film holds up. There are numerous films out there so you want to get a good film and a quality installer. A good isntaller will heat the edges down and you will not have to worry about it lifting up and trapping dirt. Also a good film will not yellow on you. Avery Nano Fusions and Ventureshield Ultra are two good films. They both come with good warranties as well... so if there were any issues they would be replaced for free.
