Default Got bugs

Just came back from a highway trip, and lots of smashed bugs on winshield and front of RX 350. Black sapphire pearl is gorgeous, but the bug guts are ugly. Car wash didn't help. I'm open to suggestions on a good bug-remover that won't mess up the finish.

McGuire's car wash detergent and nice wash rag with lots of fresh water. I'm also a long time fan of the California (silicon) squeegee. I have one I've used for about 7 years now and it's Never left a scratch.

One of RX owners in Europe posted the picture before. His white color RX got tons of bugs on the hood. I bet that was worse than yours...

What kind of car wash? Hand, machine? I used McGuire's car wash soap as Cruiter had suggested and old fashioned elbow grease to get ours clean. You can see a section of our bumper before the wash in the last post of this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ication-6.html

I guess bug repellant didn't work

After giving my RX a good rinse using strong stream on the little offenders, I use a foam cannon to give it a good presoak, then rinse and wash again with sheepskin mitts and Sonax, my soap of choice at the moment. It does a good job getting the little buggers off without scratching.

Take a used fabric softner dryer sheet and wet it. It will take the bugs off with very little effort. This is a trick I learned on one of the detailer forums years ago and have been using it ever since.

I also love the California squeegee. I was a real skeptic on that one until my son got one and I tried it about 5 years ago.

After you DO get all this removed a good coat of wax will make the guts release more easy in the future.

I live in Florida and we have the wonderful insects called love bugs. During their matting two actually attach together and fly in the road ways of Florida waiting for you to hit them with your car. In the height of the season, even your windshield wipers will not help and you have to hose these things off your windshield to just see!

If you know you will be driving through these insects, many will spray armorall on the front of their vehicle and other surfaces to make the cleaning off of their gut a easy project! No tended to and they will remove your paint

There is a product called Bug Melt in the Toyota Parts department that is awesome. It is made by PDP products. Toyota/Lexus dealerships use the PDP products to detail/wash their cars. Just an aside, PDP products supply car washes with their cleaning products.

You first hose off your car, spray on the bug melt. By the time you fill your bucket with sudsy water to start washing, the bug melt has worked and they easily come off with the soapy sponge with very little effort.

Oh yes, forgot to mention had waxed the car a few months ago so that probably helped get the bugs off alot easier.

Using Claybar is the best way I know of to remove foreign matters off of vehicles. I use it almost everytime I wash the car(s). A little soapy water in a spray bottle and a small piece of claybar does the trick. (just don't drop it):
