Hello,

Just got my new Lexus RX 350 today. I have an old IPOD and it wont register properly. How do I know what version I will need, and if I should go purchase a new IPOD.

Thanks,
PB

Don't know if this will help or not:

Quoting from the online manual
"iPod is registered trademarks of Apple, Inc.
Compatible models —
iPod 5th generation Ver. 1.2 or later
iPod nano 3rd generation Ver. 1.0 or later
iPod nano 2nd generation Ver. 1.1.2 or later
iPod nano Ver. 1.3 or later
iPod touch Ver. 1.1 or later
iPod classic Ver. 1.0 or later
iPhone, iPod mini, iPod shuffle, iPod photo and 4th generation and earlier models of iPod are not compatible with this system."

I say this may not help, as the iPhone does work so the list maybe inaccurate.

If you do a search you'll find quite a few posts on this topic. Evidently, when Apple went from Firewire to USB for their connections (within the past year or two) the connection is different.

There are adapters from Scosche and Griffin(so I'm told) that will enable you to use your older iPod - althought I haven't tried them others have reported great success.

That, to my understanding, is the main issue with the connections. Kinda stinks because I have another car that uses the old iPod hookup and the new Lexus that uses the new hookup so I've got to keep my old, crappy, iPod for a while or use the adaptor on a new one.

Hope that helps.

And some of us gave up and use thumbdrives plugged into the USB port (via an extender cable of course). With this method, there is no turning on/off of an ipod. Drag the playlist files(mp3 format) from itunes to the thumbdrive, and you are done.

I have a year old Ipod classic. One of the weird things that happens with mine is that everything I plug in to the usb on the Lexus the ipod automatically sets itself on repeat. If I am listening to an album or playlist when it finishes it automatically starts over again. Anyone else have this happen? I have to go in and manually take it off the repeat setting each time.

That's what I do. My dealer wasn't aware of that ability. The extender cable is a must.

Agreed. Even if you are just plugging an iPod into the extender.

Does leaving your IPOD plugged in via the USB port all the time harm the IPOD battery? I don't know if constantly charging it every time you turn the car on harms the IPOD.

It's just like leaving it plugged into your computer. The firmware in the Ipod knows when to shut down. It's good to keep the battery topped off.

My Segway works the same way. When I'm not riding on it, it's plugged in. Three 1/2 years on the batteries now and they are as good as new.
