I believe the navi is hard drive based and does not have a DVD player.

if that is the case that is going to be a problem for me. The dealer shipped me a New DVD since i complained to them that the Nav version on my system was showing up as 8.1 and it should be 9.1 per the paper work that they gave me. It sounds like i will have to take the car in and have the dealer figure it out

What year car do you own as I don't think you mentioned it? The 2010 has the first hard drive. I don't think anyone has ever mentioned however how the NAV will be updated on it. I guess it could be done via the CD player or
the USB port. Please keep us informed if you find out how it's done.

In the 2010 RX there's an update maps button in the setup screens. Since mine had 9.1, I haven't pushed that button to see what happens, but presume that updates can occur over-the-air the same way eDestinations are sent to the car.

How can you tell what version the 2010 RX has installed?

I am also interested. I can not find in the window sticker what version I was suppose to get. However, there are streets where I live that is not shown in the map so perhaps I need to upgrade.

I have 2010 so i do have hard drive. I will call the dealer tomorrow to see what they say. I have a feeling that they sent me DVD by mistake.
As far as checking what version software you have. i was just playing with some of the setting and happen to see the version. i will write the info down in the morning and update everyone.

Sorry Nomi if I beat you to it. I just went to the garage and this is what I found out. Under Information->Map Update, the nav version will show up. Mine is at 9.1 which I assumed is the latest. There is also a button to update map. When you push this, a display will say Connect your update device and hit I Agree button. It did not say what update device you have to connect so I did not push this button.

Your best bet is to let the dealer do it.

There are also region maps showing each chunk of map info where states are group together. Within this, there are some areas shown to have detailed maps but not all.

I will compare the detailed map between my Tomtom gps and the car and see if my Tomtom shows a better detailed than the Lexus.

I was told long ago that the NAVTEQ NAV maps are 3 to 5 years behind when they come out. NAVTEQ provides the maps for most of the NAV/GPS companies around the world. I also have noticed some old streets, mostly the off the beaten path ones, are just not there.
