Default Adding Hud after the fact

Just curious I probobly wouldn't go through with it but anyway... I noticed the dash seems to have filler panel where the HUD projector would be if it were factory installed.

Is it possible to get one put in as an option?

My guess is no but talk to your dealer.

Controls down and to the right of the steering wheel but the HUD requires a new dash, projector, need to run the wires etc... and who knows if any of the connectors are in a vehicle that wasn't going to have the hud installed in the first place.

the cut-out in the dash creates a really annoying reflection

donno why you would need a new dash

i'm sure any needed connector are in place

it would probably be very labor intensive install

i doubt lexus has instructions for a post-install

Having worked on many car electrical systems I have experienced wiring in place as well as connectors for optional accessories. I will ask the dealer at my first oil change

Unlike others... I have HUD in my RX. Not sure what you mean about the reflection, looks fine to me. The dash is different/molded around the projector in my RX vs one without.

Makes no sense to add components to a car if they aren't going to be used. Just adds $$ to the cost of the car and automakers manage the cost of vehicles to the fraction of a penny.

reflection is probably not an issue if you have hud, since you look @ the hud

all cars reflect the dash in the windshield, but most dashes are smooth w/o lines so you don't notice the reflection

on the rx, the cut-out where the dash would go creates lines that reflect on the windshield

as for hud components being in non-hud vehicles, i agree, i doubt anything is there

what i bet is there is the wiring harness connectors

i wouldn't think lexus has a unique harness for each specific vehicle config

they probably have 1 generic harness

but i could be wrong

I wish you luck as I'd be interested as well if the cost was reasonable. I agree with others here that the wiring is probably the least of the worries. The wiring harness is probably generic to all RXh's.

I think the biggest show stopper other than cost of the laser device and labor will be the windshield itself. I'm of the opinion that it's different in those models for that very purpose.

But keep us informed please.
