I've been thinking the same, it looks like it opens high, worried about low clearance parking garages.
I doubt the height will be adjustable. Pretty much if you are in a low area, don't open it electronically and open it manually.
I had the '10RX as a loaner and it does open higher than my '99RX because in my garage, the rear hatch is about 1" below an air duct we have. When we had the loaner in there, same area, the gate touched with maybe another 1" I would say to travel had the duct not been there.
So now we have to move to Europe to get all the goodies
How much higher is the tailgate opening than 2nd gen? I thought the 3rd gen was a little shorter but not short enough to avoid the step stool when washing.
I guess no opening the tailgate in parking garages
I have read that one of the new Caddy SUVs has a dial on the dash next to the rear hatch open button that controls the height to which the door opens, which is an excellent feature and one which I would think will be incorporated into other luxury SUVs and, eventually, into the RX. In the meantime, I can live without such an adjustment, as my garage at home allows full opening, and should I ever need to get into the back in a parking garage with low ceilings, I can do that manually.
On the Audi SUVs, you can open the hatch, adjust the height manually and hold the close button on the hatch until the rear lights flash, then the height is set.
First time I opened it in the garage it smashed right into the garage door. It opens much too high and needs a adjustment as many other SUV's have on them. Lexus did take some cuts on many items when they built these but it is a great vehicle that still needs lots of improvements as this forum has certainly brought out.
