iPod Not Working
Hi there, just bought a 2010 rx450h and have the same iPod issues. About 25% of the time the vehicle can detect that its plugged in but reports there is a connection problem.
It's a brand new Nano with the latest firmware upgrade and we're using the USB cable that came with the Nano. Tried other newer cables as well.
I'd have to say that it probably isn't an issue with cabling, but more of an incompatability issue (bug) between the software on the iPod and the software in the Lexus.
As many people know, Apple releases bug fixes in the form of firmware updates for iPods all the time. They need to work with Lexus on figuring out why they won't play nice with each other.
That said, does anyone know how to escalate this with Lexus?

I just purchased a 16 gb Nano 5th gen w/ the latest firmware to use solely with my RX350. I keep it plugged in permanently and it works perfectly everytime.
I also bought an excellent iPod to USB adapter from Amazon found here Ipod USB Data Sync Cable. It charges the iPod and has a nice retractable cable.
It's only $1.00, so for some it might be worth taking a chance to see if it's the cable that's the cause of the problem.

To the entire forum:
My IPod is the most current generation and up-to date with apple software. I have had the RX450 for about 7 months now and the IPOD works at times - maybe 60% of the time but if it does work - 100% of the time it will eventualy disconnect. Only way to get it back again is either to disconnect and reconnect the IPOD either at the IPOS connection and sometimes as far as having to go down to the LEXUS's UBS connection and re-insert it again. I thought for a while it might be an isolated problem so I finally decided to check the web. It appears this is an inherent bug in the LEXUS software. Does anybody have any known work arounds for the annoying problem. This falls way short on the LEXUS brand and its reputation. I have called my dealer and they say they have not had anybody call this in. Obviously this is just a run around. LEXUS get in gear and get this fixed. Your reputation for quality is becoming strained.

I had a similar problem. Last time, I plugged the iTune and the USB tab did not come on. I thought perhaps its out of power so I brought it in and recharge it via the PC. I then plug it back. Nothing. I then pulled the usb connection, plug it back and wiggle it a bit. The USB tab came on and music started playing.
From my experience, I had intermittent iPod/iPhone connection problems when I plugged in and out while entering/exiting the vehicle, as I did with my iPhone. I would have about a 75% success rate at first plug-in. When I bought a dedicated iPod Nano that I kept plugged in permanently--I only unplug to update the library--that was when I had a 99.9% success rate (I've had one connection failure in the last two months).
This may be one area to test: keep an updated ipod permanently connected for a couple weeks, and see if your connection success rate improves.

I called customer service last Friday and I talked to a customer rep. They told me I would hear from a service engineer this last Monday (4/19). I never received a call....so I called again today. They told me to make an appointment with my dealer and they would look at it and Lexus customer service would follow up with the dealer after they check out the vehicle. I'll let you know how I make out.
Call Customer Service - 1-800-255-3987 and let them know of your problem. This was suggested by someone's post earlier in this thread.

Hello everyone,
I own ipod touch (3rd Generation).
Here is what I did with mine and it worked perfectly fine when my Lexus 350 2010 suddenly can't pick up when i plugged in the ipod.
I did a data/settings wipe and brought the ipod back to manufacturer default just like when first bought it out of the box.
Make sure my firmware up to date with itunes
Plug in the car and it worked again. My advise is, DO NOT TURN ON GENIUS feature on your ipod.
good luck

We just tried to set up an iPod classic (with latest firmware update) last night. The nav screen recoognizes the iPod, and shows the songs, but no music plays through the speakers. The iPod shows OK to Disconnect, but when I change songs on the iPod, the changes are reflected in the nav screen. So, it appears the devices recognize each other, but no music plays. Is this same the problem others have had?

Then when you scroll through your songs on the iPod, these changes are reflected on the navigation screen. Does it scroll along with you on the nav screen or do you scroll on the iPod and when you stop it shows up on the nav screen?
I'll have to dig out an old iPod and see if I can duplicate what's going on. I've been using an old iPhone for quite awhile as a music source. With my iPhone at least, it does not work as you have indicated.
I have a several year old iPod nano connected through the USB port in my RX 450h. I have no problems such as what has been described here despite it being an old iPod. The firmware is up to date, but it certainly is far from the newest hardware and it does work.
