I haven't had my ipod touch in the car for a few days now. It was working great but yesterday I did a firmware update on it. Hmm, wonder it it'll work next time in car

It is not that it doesn't work, it is just that it is so inconsistent. Sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it doesn't. It is almost as if it is a timing problem. If I unplug the USB cable and replug it works after I reselect it off the audio screen. It is just a pain to do that every time.

Mine is working fine. I was using it today through Blue Tooth.

Did some more testing. BT does not seem to have the same problems as USB. When using USB connection if I do not power off the audio before turning the car off I get sporadic recognition of the iPod. Unplugging and re-plugging the iPod into the USB does not affect whether it s seen by the audio system. If I do turn off audio power first then turn off the car, so far the iPod is recognized next time I select it.

Ok, so just a guess here. Do you have a setting to auto-off the iPod after a period of time with no activity? Maybe you can try the opposite setting.

Perhaps, and this is where the guessing is coming into play, your iPod is not turning off when the power is cut and the battery is draining. When you turn on your car the next time it may take a few minutes to charge the battery enough to power the iPod so it isn't recognized because it isn't charged.

Some folks had this issue with Infinitis and this was one of the problems.

Could also be a cable(but I think you tried multiple cables correct?). Are you using the Apple specific usb connector? If not, I would definitely try that as well.

So just brainstorming some thoughts here.

No cable is provided, that's an 'owner must provide' accessory. Lexus provides the receptacle to receive it.

And I would strongly urge you to get the Apple USB cable. Some of the other manufacturers' products may not be as reliable and could create issues (such as the one's listed by the OP). Not saying they can't work, but for my money I'd rather have the OEM cable so there is the best chance of a successful connection. It's worth the extra few dollars not to have to problem solve a wonky cable. Just my $.02.

I agree. As a matter of fact the next time I go to Wallmart I'm getting another one. I think I remember seeing them there for around $12 so no big deal. Plus it keeps the ipod charged up 'AND' you can select from the contents on the NAV that way. Using Bluetooth, it works fine but you have to select using the ipod.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I tried it with a cable this morning and it was great. Didn't have any problems.

I want to try the bluetooth tab. Is there supposed to be a attachment included to hook up the ipod. I was watching a youtube video and the guy put a piece to the bottom of the ipod and then paired it. Is this thing supposed to be included with the purchase of the car? I have, Nav, Prem, and Comfort package.

Nope. If your Ipod is compatible via Blue Tooth, then just use the instructions in the manual. They should work fine. No extra device needed which is the 'nice' part. But you'll have to pick your songs from the Ipod menu, the NAV system won't define the Ipod file system on Bluetooth.

Well, I am using an official Apple cable right from the Ipod box. Still can't get a consistent availability of the Ipod when I start up the car. Unplugging and replugging the cable works almost everytime. Nothing else seems to do it. The blue tooth from my iPhone works but I don't want to have to dig it out to do song selection. Every once in awhile it does work right but not often enough. Someone suggested earller that you check for settings related to power on and off but I can't find any that would impact this issue at all.

My iPhone sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, although I don't drive the RX much.

Do a search to view the multitude of problems people have had with the iPod/iPhone through the problematic interface.

When the iPhone is recognized, this is still a persistent problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55uFg...e=channel_page

I never heard back from Lexus USA after informing them of this problem, and my dealership blames the iPhone.

OK, mine is doing that on occasion too. I think it's because the same device has been registered as blue-tooth and when I connect it with the cable and then turn off the car it tries the blue-tooth connection. Probably I should either delete the blue-tooth connection and just use the cord or just use blue-tooth alone.

If there is a Single F*** up with the 2010 Models, it has to be the Bluetooth.
Lexus has a very short List of phones that will pair with the system.
Not a Single IPhone is on the list most of Nokia’s phone will not work or will only have a few functions.
Two out of my three phones will not pair up and they all did with my older Lexus.
I did talk to HQ and they told me to get another phone.
They do not even call it a problem; they use the words issues and concerns.
Hell, It’s a PROBLEM.
