In December after a visit at gas station the check engine light was ON. Visited nearest O'Reilly store to read errors. Scanner showed P0441 (EVAP System Incorrect Purge Flow) and P1421 (EVAP Canister Gross Leak).
I bought a new gas cap (~$25) but it didn't help.
Then I visited the shop that specialized in Japanese cars and they found a broken EVAP hose (#3 on the image) - there was no vacuum in the system. Several days later I pulled hose #2 (without power) and it broke also (because of age), so I decided to replace all 3 hoses. I did it yesterday, errors were cleaned, check engine light is OFF now.

I got the P0441 code this week.
Cleared it but it came back as "pending".

Except for the EVAP VSV's mounted on the engine which were already replaced with new vacum lines too, I haven't dug into the EVAP system on this car much.
Fuel trims are good so not expecting a vacuum leak from intake.

Where is this section of hose located in the engine bay or under the vehicle?

I pulled the air filter box and all those hoses along that metal rib look and feel fine. I felt along the length of each hose underneath, on top and on the sides,

no visible cracking anywhere and could not feel any cracks anywhere.

Waiting to see what other people find before digging in.

I have an annoying "small leak" evap code popping up randomly for a while now too and I haven't had the time or patience to deal with locating it and I have no smoke machine either so interested what other people find.

Just looking under the car the evap canister is not in a fun place- over the exhaust and behind a heat shield so rather not go there if I don;t have to and hoping the leak is somewhere else more accessible.

PS: I had a problem with #3 first (goes down between engine and cabin), and #2 cracked in my hand when I pulled it

 

So do we need to remove the black plastic rectangular-ish box above the air intake hose to get to number two and number three?

 

A bit more digging, hoses look OK but they are hard. Lexus dealer wants $37 plus tax for those three hoses. Wondering if I can use bulk hose.

 

1 and 2 are easy to check. What about #3?


PS: Green valve can be used to check if vacuum is in the system.

 

Wasn’t able to get a visual on #3. Was thinking about trying a cigar smoke test.
I just went out to have another close look at that hose number three. how did you even get to it? I can’t even see the lower clamp point or how to get to it.

 

I did it at a shop. #3 is the most loaded in EVAP
