I haven't gotten an answer from anyone about this... but does this sound normal? It hasn't really gotten any worse... but it's pretty clacky sounding, especially when cold. still runs well, no idiot lights, no codes...
2009 RX-350 with about 125,000 miles.
One easy thing to do, and cheap, is to rule out one of the many things running off the serpentine belt. Remove the belt, and start the engine (don't run it long, water pump disabled), and this will ensure it is not alternator, ps pmp, or other pulley.
Well yes this sounds exactly like the sound I was getting much more so during the “colder” weather in the winter around here; so i went to have it looked at by a supposed Lexus specialist and I think I got taken for a ride because they said I need a engine but that was way back in January and now even to this day; everything seems to be ok as the engine has not Grenaded or anything on me and is still running fine so far so I think that noise is just “normal” for some of if not all of these engines.

yeah, it runs great... just shouldn't sound like an old singer. gonna drive 'er 'til she drops or until I can find another better.
It sounds like it could be a valve lifter. Why don't you try running some Seafoam in the oil to clean the oil passages and see what that does.
I'm thinking it came about shortly after an oil change, I put synthetic in it... idk what it had in it before. it was always serviced at a lexus stealership, but didn't state the type of oil, probably conventional. maybe I knocked something loose!

i think i may take a chance on doing that myself and pick up some seafoam. So whats the worst that could happen? it doesnt help? so im out a few dollars for the sea foam.
