Mine was making some "lifter ticking" noise and Seafoam in the engine oil treatment fixed it completely.

It was only one lifter but it was loud and very obnoxious.

today it started up without the CLACK and only has normal fuel injector clicks... weird. I'll never understand this car. the stereo still sounds like crap though.

Sounds like a collapsed hydraulic lifter thats not pumped up.........Seafoam can possibly help. A vvti issue has nothing to do w/ lifters.....Another words if you had a vvti cam phazer issue, its not going to make that kind of noise, which is clearance thanx to a lifter or two thats not pumped up.....Add a can of seafoam, let it run for a bit, possibly drive it around easy for 10-20 miles & then drain the oil & swap the filter out & yes use synthetic oil w/ a quality oil filter.......btw a hydraulic lifter has tight tolerances to take up the slack allowing the valve train to operate w/ zero tolerance vs a solid lifter which needs a set clearance such as on the 1mz/3mz motors......

it started shortly after I changed the oil... it had conventional oil in it and I switched to synth. I probably knocked some sludge loose and that sludge is probably elsewhere now. I've never experienced a noise like this going away on its own and I've been doing this for decades.

ikr, the stealership did it... right before I bought it. I wasn't planning on buying the car, but it was there, price seemed right. I drove it about 1000 miles and changed the oil to synth. did the trans too.

yeah... I just didn't trust the stealership and didn't want conventional oil. I think I have it at 7500 miles, but may switch it to 5k.

supposed to be about 50/50... never saw a point in using it. reminds me of using "Slick 50" in my dino oil.

realistically its best to follow the maintenance indicator; when that starts flashing and then goes out; its letting u know that i think its like 500 miles give or take til its actually "due" for oil change at which point the maint. required light will stay on all the time til oil change is performed.

yeah, I know... I set it at 7500. I also set my garage as the dealer to take it to.

LOL...you'd kinda think it would, but not......I basically change oil at 3-5k w/ a quality filter, one dedicated to synthetic oils......
