Default Missing Amplifier?

Hi all,

Here is an interesting one for you. I just bought a 2006 RX400h in near mint condition from a trustworthy seller. The only issue was no sound from the stereo, but the head unit operated normally - I figured the amp was blown based on your other threads (thanks for those!).

Its a Mark Levinson stereo, so I bought a replacement Mark Levinson amp on eBay.

Now, I’ve opened up the floor in the trunk just below the passenger seat - there is no amp in there. There are two plugs, not plugged into anything.

So I figured the amp was removed for testing, work was declined, and they didn’t replace the original part. However, the two plugs do not plug into my replacement amp.

Ive attached a picture of the replacement amp next to the two leads that we’re not hooked to anything.

My questions - given the Mark Levinson head unit, safe to assume a Mark Levinson amp? How can I tell which amp I received from eBay? It looks identical to the one I’ve seen in videos of guys replacing these. And where the heck did my amp go? Essentially, I think I need to find whatever amp fits the two leads - but I’m at a loss as to why this one won’t fit.

The wire harness connectors are for a 2004 to 2006 Lexus. You have an amplifier for a 2007 to 2009 Lexus.

Thanks for your reply. I returned the amp that was a generation too new and bought one from an 06. Still Mark Levinson. My two leads plug into the new amp, but I still have no sound. Of note is that there are four plug ins on the amp and I’m only using two of them.

Any ideas? Did I buy a broken amp, or the wrong amp?

Does the amplifier have blue(?) stickers with the part number 86280-0E021 on it? If it does, you have the correct amplifier. I think the other 2 connectors are used when the car is equipped with the entertainment system, the DVD and video screens in the back seat.

In the fuse panel under the hood is a 30 amp fuse used for the amplifier. It is one of the big square things. The diagram in the cover calls it AMP or AM2. Check this.

Thanks for your help!

It’s actually a purple sticker as below. The last four digits don’t match.

The amp was warm after trying it, so I know it had power but haven’t checked the fuses yet.

The part number on the label needs to be 86280-0E021. Each model of the Lexus has a different part number. I don't know what the differences are, but if Lexus goes to the trouble to make a different one for each model, then they are somehow different and maybe they are not interchangeable.

I don't see a photo or part number in your post, so I searched part numbers. This is just a partial list:
86280-0W260 is for a LS460 or LS600H and has an orange tag. The connectors are also sequenced differently.
86280-0W051 & 86280-0W052 & 86280-0W053 is for a LX470 and has a green tag.
86280-0W040 & 86280-0W041 is for a LS430 and has a blue tag
86280-0W031 & 86280-0W032 is for a GS300 or GS430 and has a reddish orange tag
86280-0W470 is for a ? and has a pink tag
86280-0W480 is for a LS460 and has a green tag
86280-0W660 is for an IS250 & IS350
86280-0W350 and has a yellow or purple tag

Thanks so much for your reply! Really appreciate it.

I confirmed the fuses used are fine. So it looks to me that I’ve tried two amplifiers that are the wrong model. Without the original to repair, I don’t see any on ebay so I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.

Thabks again

Default 86280-0W480 vs 86280-0w260

Does anyone by chance know if the 86280-0W480 amplifier and the 86280-0w260 amplifier are the same? I have a 2007 ls460l with a bad 0w260 and found a good deal for a 0w480 out of a swb.

they most likely aren't the same since the part numbers are different, but who knows the extent of the differences, and whether or not they are interchangeable. My bet is no tho.
