Lost Engine Air Filter Bolt
Hi, I just changed my air filter and lost the bolts that tighten it down. Does anyone happen to know where I can get a replacement or know the specs/size so I can get some from a hardware store?
Also, am i ok to be driving without the cover tightened?I'm a little paranoid about it..
Thanks!

Lead Lap
If you dropped them into the engine bay, maybe try taking off the undercarriage covers-they're probably down there. Otherwise duck tape it closed, (there is a secondary filter in the lid to help protect the system) and go to your nearest Toyota or Lexus dealer for new ones. They are fine threaded bolts that would be hard to replicate at a hardware store. Plus and IMO more important, they have a special size washer that fits within the grooves in the filter housing to ensure a tight seal- so you need just the right size washer too. I'd get the correct bolts and washers since they're not a set and forget part; they'll have to come off for service every 10k miles.

If you have wreckers close by, any Toyota will have 10mm Bolts you can use.
I had one air filter cover bolt missing when I purchased the RX & matched it with a Toyota 10mm bolt from the wreckers.

I would try the wreckers too as 05RX330AWD says. I do most of my replacements that way too. I just saw yesterday on youtube that its better to tie some fishing line to bolts on hard to reach places before you bolt them back on. Then even if they fall, you can pull them back up with little hassle. I think going for cotton string would be better as you can just break it off after the bolt is tightened.
Wish I had thought about that before I dropped two bolts into the abyss when removing the stereo.

Usually when I absolutely need something of lesser value at the U-Pick Wreckers, I'll also pickup some fuses, relays, clips & a small variety of bolts.
The wreckers will charge me maybe $5.00 for a handful of useful stuff which could save me a trip in the future.

Bolt available at Toyota Dealer
Hello,
I noticed my rear bolt was missing from the air cleaner cover. Went to the local Toyota dealer, he looked up the bolt for a 2008 Highlander air filter and sold it to me for $1.99, It was an exact fit.
The cover has to be aligned perfectly and the bolt has to be clipped on to the cover flange all the way to bolt on easily. A socket wrench with a long extension did the trick to reach the back bolt.
I hear that a lot of the engine parts are similar to the Highlander.

My dealer didn't have any in stock, said 5 days out to order for $2.73.
Went to Ace, super easy, it's an M5 .8, I chose 30mm since that was a match. I even had 3 choices, allen head, bolt head, or phyllips head, I went with phyllips so I could use my drill.
The bolt was $0.65 and an accompanying washer was $.11.
