Key question?
example: if I find a Lexus/RX key, can I get a blank cut and reuse the guts from the found key?
Most cities have locksmiths that can cut and program most all modern car keys. The one that I use is very reasonable, has blanks, and knows all the ins-and-outs of what you need. His blanks are as good or better a deal than buying online. I'd do some searching and check out your local locksmiths that do car keys. Mine not only cut the keys but came out to the car and programmed everything. They do it all day.
Wherever you get the new electronics, online at eBay or from a dealer, you will need to have that programmed to your RX. So, you will need to go to the Lexus dealer eventually. So, would not hurt to start there in the first place to get a quote.
Believe the 2004 and 2005 use the same electronics while the 2006 and 2007 use a different set, though I have read different stories on that. Here is what Sewell is charging:

Be sure to create an account, select that you are a Club Lexus member, to see the final price in your cart. This key will come with the shell, electronics and cut for your RX, however, it will still need to be programmed to your RX as mentioned above.
If you are doing one you might as well think about getting two while you are at it if you are low on keys.
As mentioned above, you can also trying googling a locksmith for your area who can program Lexus keys as well for your vehicle and see what they have available and their pricing.
