Default Tires

Anyone have a new update on tire choices for the RX-350? I am running the Bridgestone Alenza 235-55-18 and they are loud with just so-so winter traction, my dad runs the same size in Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring and likes them. Anyone have any other ideas besides Michelins which don't really make a good tire in this size.

I just installed those Goodyear Assurance Comfortred Touring that was #1 recommended at TireRack.Com. Although I saved $24 by buying them thru DiscountTire.Com. So far, so good, but it's only been a week.

I will add that after installing them, I wondered about putting a "touring" tire on an all-weather (read: WINTER) SUV. But, like I said, it was top rated including the ratings for rain, snow and ice.

I don't have these tires but it's another alternative and discussed by CL members:

Welcome to Club Lexus, Thule.

If you use the search feature of the forums you will see there are already quite a number of existing threads which talk about the topic of tires for the 2nd Generation RX. Most anything you might want to ask on that topic has already been asked.

If you're talkin' to me, I can't say because I just had them mounted a week ago and it's been mild here in Pittsburgh. That being said, if you go to TIRERACK.COM and put in the car (2006 RX330 with 18 inch tires) and show the "best sellers", the Comfortred comes up first. Then go into the "survey" and you'll see that it has the top winter ratings, complied from thousands of users, vs thousands of users of other tires. So I ASSUME they'll be about as good as it gets.

By the way, TIRERACK was foolish. (In case you guys working there read this). Their "sticker" prices are a bit lower, but since DISCOUNTTIRE.COM prices theirs with free shipping, the total cost for 4 tires was lower by $24 at DT. I first called TireRack, because I've dealt with them before and was unsure about what the experience would be with DT. I told TR that I'd buy the tires from them if they met the DT price. The guy quickly, forcefully and unwaiveringly said "we do not cut our prices, ever". So I thanked him and ordered from DT. The tires came quickly like they do from TR and next time I won't even bother if DT is still cheaper. Tire Rack lost a customer over 24 bucks. My observation is that they could continue to get the prices they get but should not be adverse to playing "let's make a deal" with people like me who can provide them with bona fide lower pricing elsewhere.

Yes, I had a similar experience a few years back, and since have bought my tires at DT, after checking prices on-line. It's too bad, because tirerack has great reviews and tests, and also provide sponsorship to several websites. If the prices were very similar, I would use them even if a touch more expensive.

Hey DixieLex,

What size Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus did you put on since they don't come in the 235-55-18?

The base tire size is 225/65-17. It comes in that size.
