I have a 2008 RX350, purchased new, with 45K miles on it.
When pressing in the pedal of the parking brake, my foot
slipped of the pedal. The parking brake is NOT engaged, but
the dash indicator brake (red) is illuminated. Is there a "reset"
procedure for this issue.
I have done that repeatedly. The light still leers at me.
The brake is definitely not engaged. I fiddled around with
the pedal area and cannot detect any anomoly there.
Thank you....
Are you positive it is indicating the parking brake and not a low fluid level due to brake pads being low? I know it is coincidental, but it is worth checking. If the fluid is low, have your brakes inspected, just don't fill to make light go off. It is hard for me to beleive the switch for the emergency brake is acting up by your foot slipping off the peddle as the switch is activated by creating an "open" in the circuit. Meaning the button is out when the e-brake is activated. Can you set the e-btake and then look to see if the switch is damaged at all?
The points you are stating are valid and I have checked
the fluid and pad(s) itself and the brake is in fine shape, maybe
an 8 out of 10. It doesn't appear that the "wire" is over flexed
as it connects to the pedal. That is why I am suspecting
maybe a "reset" of sorts?
there is a little switch on the emergency brake pedal that turns off the brake light when the pedal is FULLY up. Sometimes that switch breaks, or the switch position is a little misadjusted to that it is still on even though the pedal is all the way up. My dealer replaced my switch when that happened to mine.
^^ Once you eliminate the position of the pedal and the fluid level, then it is the switch that needs to be looked at. It may have been dislodged, bent, broken etc. You will have to assume the astronaut launch position and take a flash light and explore. You foot may have pulled of the connector.
Thank you all. I will assume the position and investigate. Once I am done with
the removal of snow (12 to 18+" on top of previous 28+") I will report back.
