Default What is the blinking brake light in the dash telling me

On occasion the brake warning light on my '93 LS will start blinking. I assumed it was a pad issue but inspection revealed plenty of life left. Brake fluid is full, brake pedal has always been a little spongy. Does this car have some sort of pad wear warning light that's malfunctioning or is there another culprit I should inspect?

Depends on what you're doing when it flashes. Generally this indicates low fluid in the brake reservoir. This can flash on when you've got low fluid and round a corner and it gets triggered on. I've seen this happen.
Spongy is not good... does them mean you can pump it once then hit the brake and it's much firmer than if you only press the brake once without the pump?
if that is the case you may have a leaking caliper that should be fixed.

pad indicator is a different icon than brake light.
pad indicator looks like this: (O) on 90-97 models. 98-00 models say "brake wear" on the status bar.
the icon that says "brake" relates to the parking brake or low fluid in the reservoir as legender stated.

I would check your cap on the reservoir and make sure there is no obstruction on the float.

Do you have traction control? The pre-VSC cars used a separate hydraulic pump/accumulator assembly in addition to the ABS modulator to work the secondary throttle and modulate the rear wheels for the TRAC system. The TRAC light might not blink or be on but I think since the accumulator might be shot the pump is running more than it should - which may cause the spongy pedal.
