Default Second Time RX Owner

just and intro here since i've been a lurker, but haven't posted much. We used to have a 2000 RX300. we had it till 200k miles. we then made the mistake of trading it in for a 2006 Ford Escape. after 85k miles, the transmission started slipping. so we went back to the lexus dealer and they gave us an offer on a 2007 CPO, and a trade in value on the POS Ford that we couldn't pass up. so now, i'm back in an RX. 2007 RX350 and lovin life again. the only thing i don't like is the halogen lights. i've just read through 10 pages of threads and am still wondering if it's possible to pull these out and put in some HID projector housings with the stock wiring. i also have a 2002 Honda Civic that I retro'd in some Acura TSX HID projectors. the ballasts pull about 15A on inrush, so i had to build a relay harness. the stock wires couldn't take it. so if i have the halogens on the 2007 RX350, can the stock wires handle the xenon projectors? or am i going to have to do a relay harness on this too? does the SUV have the same power wiring regardless of which headlight is in there?

Hi there, you can always do a retrofit but require to do a relay harness. What kind of projectors are you thinking to retrofit into the RX ?

i want to buy the OEM RX projectors, housings, ballast, all of it and just swap out my halogen housings. i don't want to do a retro. i figure it won't be too hard since xenons were an option. i would think the stock wiring would be setup to handle either halogen or xenon.

Probably cheaper/easier to buy a whole headlight housing with HID.

that's what i was trying to say in my previous post. i'm just wondering if the stock wiring can take it. is it the same power harness OEM whether you have halogen or HID? if the wire gauge is the same, then i'll just buy the xenon housings with ballast, bulbs, etc off ebay and swap them out. the variable i don't know about is the AFS. i know the actuator is in the housings, but the servos would have to get a signal from the car. is that signal in all cars and just not used?

you will need to have harness made. Most retrofitter will do it for you there are also information from hidplanet about making your own harness

electric13,

I feel your pain, I don't know if I don't understand the "jargon" or no one is giving a straight answer.

Can you plug the OEM HIDs into the OEM stock wiring harness, yes or no?

If no, is there an OEM stock wiring harness to replace for the HIDs?

you hit the nail on the head!!!!! i know the connector is the same on both halogen and HID. i'm only wondering about the wire size. i can't imagine Lexus would put 18ga on one and 16ga (or whatever size is) on another based on the headlights because the harness runs to so many other things.
