A lot of the german cars have oversized sumps, like the mercedes 8.5 qt sump for a 3 liter v6. More oil means longer OCI. Following a service computer's timing on oil change should keep you out of trouble.
Different engines and driving conditions mean different OCIs. One can't assume that a synthetic oil that lasts 17,000 miles in a bmw will do the same in a lexus. As you found out the only way to safely extend OCIs is oil analysis.
I've attached a UOA from bitog for a RX330 using Pennzoil Platinum synthetic. Blackstone recommended 7500 OCI. If you notice for 8600 mile oil change the TBN was down to 2.0 (minimum).
That is kind of funny, that is my car/oil change!!! ... to be fair, the 8600 miles was Mobil 1 EP 5W30 and with a TBN of 2.0, it was basically spent ... that is when I switched over to Pennzoil Platinum.
BTW, confirmed our FL accommodations for the winter. You going down again this year?
Had a near miss today in the RX. Someone pulled out of a parking lot and forced me right up to the curb. Scrapped my wheel up a bit but he missed me by a whisker. He never saw me. I was sure he was going to slam me broadside. Guess I need to get a refinish on the wheel.
Doesn't look good for Florida this winter. Daughter geting married this fall.
Big $$$ so may have to skip a year.
Glad u didn't get hit. Was at Walgreens last week & someone almost hit us in the parking lot. Must have been going 30 MPH in the lot as we were pulling out.
