Pennzoil Platinum has good reviews. That's what I use. Mobil 1 is good, too.

Mobil 1 and PP, same price, no brainer PP! For the longest time, Mobil 1 thought they will never be challenged....days are over. So now they have to be competitive.

I just picked up at wallyword Mobil1 too for $22. I'm trying out the 0W30 on my corolla and see if I get better mpg as they claim. I doubt it will make much difference but Mobil1 claims it exceeds 10W30 and 5W30 protection.

I've had five Lexus automobiles, have used Mobil 1 for the last fifteen years, great performance and longevity for all cars. I change my oil every 5000 miles, get the oil at Costco for $34.00, would not use any other oil

Just trying for some humor. Nothing personal just trying to lighting things up during these troubled times.

I have been using Mobil 1 in all of my cars for the last 20 years or so. Never an issue, great cold start (no start up noise - what's that all about), no burning, nothing. Just great protection.

It's more of valve tapping noise but it takes a while until the oil circulates just as you mention but for the Scion it took a while longer than 3-5 seconds more like until the temp gauge is at middle.

Agree on Pennzoil Platinum...I'd take that over Mobil 1. My favorite is still Castrol 0W30. PP is about $5 and change for a quart, while Castrol's is about $6 a quart. Amsoil is also excellent, but way more expensive, running $9 to $10 a quart, but good stuff to be sure.

What we call synthetics here in USA are not true synthetic by European standards. No one mentioned Castrol.

I've seen a lot of talk here about Castrol. It is a good oil BUT.... Normal oil is a paraffin base and Castrol is a Tungsten base. If a person is switching to it, it's always wise to let the old oil completely drain then add enough Castrol to run the engine at idle long enough for it to circulate completely through the engine then drain it and add fresh to wash all the old paraffin base oil out. If there is too much of a mix of both it can cause a lot of froth and not much viscosity. Same in procedure if going from Castrol to regular oil.

that's if you are going from dino to synthetic. I use Mobil 1 synthetic but am going to Amsoil next oil change.

yep, amsoil has very good reviews... I just recently changed the oil in my bmw to amsoil euro... i heard castrol synthetic euro is another good oil... mobil 1 is one of the best over-the-counter oils... however, new mobil 1 has been reforumulated and breaks down a little bit sooner (7500 miles~) than the older formula (10k+) ... but lexus oil change intervals aren't like bmw, so you should be fine...
