Default 25+ mpg

Just got back from 3000 mile total round trip which we did in 2 days each way.
Got 25+ MPG using 93 Octane fuel & synthetic oil.
Was pleasantly surprised with that.

I'm getting ready to make my way back as well. We got 25.5 avg. MPG on the 1,500 mi. trip south on premium.

Hope you lost all the snow and enjoyed your winter in the south.

When we got back from the Cape Coral area it was almost as warm here but today brought us back to earth.

Just went to a 1.5 hours trip today each way and got about 24+ mpg out of it. About 90% freeway drive. Pleasantly surprised!

How fast were you driving? Cruise control? Air Conditioning?

Last year I drove from California to New Mexico (1,200 Miles). Averaged 30 MPG in my 09 RX. Return trip (1,200 miles) averaged 29 MPG. This included going through flat, hills, mountains, etc. Traveled on highways, CA-99, CA-58, I-40, US-285, and US-60. Averaged 65 to 70 MPH the whole way. I could not believe I was getting that great of mileage. Most of the driving was in Arizona and New Mexico. Someone told me that I probably got the better mileage because the AZ and NM don't put as much additives in their gas like CA.

When I was behind the wheel I use Cruise Control & when the wife drives she refuses to use it.
Average speed is around 70MPH & No AC except the 1st 300 miles or so till we get further north into Georgia.

Sorry folks, but I have to seriously doubt your stated fuel mileage. It is absolutely impossible to get 29-30 MPG with a stock RX. 25 MPG is highly questionable but could be possible if all conditions were perfect. I have to ask if you are actually calculating your fuel mileage when you refuel your vehicle or merely stating the reading on the trip computer? The trip computer is not an accurate device to use when stating fuel mileage. Actual vehicle fuel mileage should be calculated at refueling by taking the trip odometer reading (miles traveled) divided by the number of gallons you just put in the vehicle. Always reset the trip odometer after refueling if you plan on calculating your fuel mileage.

Beg to differ with you. We have about 45k miles on our 05 RX and I have calculated mileage that has been as high as 29+. We have takne many trips in excess of 3k miles. Last October we drove a 3,300+ mile round trip which included the high deserts of Nevada, through Utah (up and down mountain passes) parts of Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California. Overall trip average was right at a calculated 24. We managed to hit high 20's on several legs of that drive. I will admit to speeds well in excess of the limits while in the Eastern part of Nevada, and at times hitting triple digits for sustained periods. The RX is perfectly capable of achieving high 20's in fuel mileage.

It still amazes me that some RX owners know more about the performance of these vehicles than the people who design and manufacture them.

jayvis,

I've posted this before but you must have missed it. This is a chart of my 2004 RX330 AWD fuel economy from the day I bought it. All mileage is actual measured calculated by using the actual miles traveled divided by the actual gallons filling the tank. I find it is pretty easy to hit 25+ MPG on the freeway at a steady speed of 70-80. I do it a couple times a year. The highest I've ever measured was 27.2 MPG. Over the five years I've owned the RX I've averaged 22.5 MPH. My driving is typically 80% highway. BTW, These trips are with the vehicle loaded with about 600 hundred pounds of people and luggage.

As you can see from the chart, I've exceeded 25 MPG numerous times. All the peaks represent travel between Milwaukee, WI. and Cape Coral, FL. I typically set the cruse control to the posted speed limit +5 MPH and just cruse until I need to stop for gas. I do use premium fuel as I get 1-2 MPG better mileage with it on the expressway..

If you doubt the chart and want the raw data I have it all saved in a spreadsheet. I've tracked every gallon of gasoline I put in the vehicle. Let me know if you still doubt this is possible and I'll send it to you.

I average about 18.5 city and 24-25 hwy at around 75 MPH on an 08 RX350 AWD with very gentle driving style.
