The backup camera transmission is clear one moment and blurry the next. The Lexus dealer said it's a $900+ fix due to water getting inside. Anyone have this problem? Any solutions other than that suggested by the dealer?
First, let me say that I do not have an RX with the camera ....
Typically the dealer would replace the failing component. It seems it is the camera itself. Once you figure out how to and have the tools, you can do it yourself or get it done.
If you are willing to play with it, just disassemble and drain the moisture out. Low temp baking (if you can set temp to 120F) for extended time will remove moisture. Then you have to make sure the holes are plugged to prevent future penetration of moisture.
Typically the dealer would replace the failing component.
This is called "Pop and Swap" where the failing part is then sent back to the re-work department where some technician does what others has suggested. Your old camera is "refurbed" and installed in the next Toyota/Lexus vehicle needed back-up surveillance.
That camera isn't worth but about $70 at full retail. At $900, it had better have three HD chips in it and produce a broadcast quality picture. Mine doesn't. I'd try another dealer - even a trip to Radio Shack before I'd fork over 900 bills . . .
It turned rainbow in colors for 10 seconds before adjusting itself to real colors. No idea what went wrong but I haven't been able to recreate it since 2 days ago
Funny, to read this thread... I just got dropped off by Lexus courtesy van. Mine is experiencing similar issues. They are simply going to swap it out with a new one. I don't think I got any water in it since I havent washed it in over a week and it just started a couple days ago. They should fix your's under warranty, the malfunction of the camera is not your fault, talk to a service manager to claim mfg defect. Good luck!
Is lexus fixing this for you??? bring it up to Anchorage free fix
My Lexus dealer is the best--I can bring them my RX with anything and they will look at it and fix it free--I have an 04.
We only have one lexus dealer and only One lexus mechanic--very goood guy! He gives me the handheld computer and lets me go thru the LPS and adjust whatever I want when I want.
Brought him once a flat tire from the car--he fixed it right then and there--free.
