Probably a non-hazardous coating...for use to prohibit bacteria build up, that's the cause of the odor....none to be concerned about. Otherwise they open themselves into serious litigation.

I would suspect ashes, dry skin, or dandruff from one of the passengers.

Lexus called me today and after they took a look at the pictures they are concerned. They have advised the service people to replace the a/c exchange
and heater motor and core if necessary. The parts are ordered and will be in
next Wed. My car will have to be overnight for them to have time to complete the repair. They have also asked me to give them a sample of the particles that are collecting on the dash.(and its not dry skin or dandruff geeezze)

We will wait and see what happens.

I will keep you posted

Can you break, flatten, or otherwise crush those particles? Or are they solid and hard to mash?

Interesting developments - thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Personally, I found the particles to be very small. I didn't give much thought to breaking them down or investigating further. My guess is consistent with other thoughts - that this is simply mold-preventing coating residue that didn't stick. If I continue to see the particles after a few months - or if we get updated information that this is a product issue - I'll plan on pursuing further.

RXOwner:

The larger particles are firm but the rest are like an ash and if you wipe them with your finger it leaves a trail just like a cigerette ash.

Mandyfig:

If you go the the link I posted below you can see the photo album and how much collected in a three day period.

VroomVroom:

I agree with your conclusion I also think it is break down of a coating either on the heater or a/c exhange.

Faymester:

My RX is still underwarranty and the service manger has indicated there will be no charges.

here is the link to my photo album if anyone wants to take a look at the bunch of pictures I sent to Lexus.

FYI on my end. One week after cleaning the dash, and no more particles. Seems to confirm that it was just some residue/overspray.

No appointment yet with Lexus.

Parts are supposed to be here sometime this week, the a/c exchange was coming out of California.

Lexus dealer said he would call as soon as it arrives and then do the work.
