CD Player Issues- ERROR 4?
Has anyone else had internittent problems with their CD changer? (I have an '04' RX330).
About a year ago, out of the blue, I'd push the button to load a CD, it would flash the word load for just a second, and I couldn't load the CD. A few days later it would seem OK, as if something got reset. Then other times, I would put a CD in, get ERROR 4, and it wouldn't play or eject. The next time the car started, it would eject and be fine. Before I could bring it in to the dealer, the problem totally disappeared.
Now it has started in again. I'm trying to figure out what sets this off (such as turning off the ignition in the middle of it flashing 'load'?, etc.) Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thanks,
Gary

I think I had that problem when the loading/eject cycle was interrupted. Restart and reboot, and be sure you are not loading into an occupied spot. If you get 2 CDs in the same spot, it will take several tries for you to get them out (one at a time).
Apart from that, it seems to work very reliably for such a complex system. I have the ML in my SC which I have had since April of '01 and it has never acted up.
Oh, and of course, never use a CD with one of those paste-on print it yourself labels. The heat causes the label to curl up at the edge and it will not eject; the labels also make the CD too thick for reliable ejection. If you are burning your own CD, use a marker to label them, or look into something like the "LightScribe" drives. (Which are very cool.)
PS: I don't know what "Error 4" is.

I too would be looking at the CDs you have as an initial culprit. Even the slightest imperfections or warpage, or those infamous labels, can render these slot load CD players useless.
My stereo also seems to get very hot. If yours is like mine it may have some affect on your CDs. Try putting the CDs in slots 1-3-5 or 2-4-6 to see if spacing them out helps over time.
Not so say that you do not have a problem with the player itself, but the CDs are by far the biggest culprit and a good place to start. Reproducibility will be the ultimate way to prove to the dealer that the unit needs replaced. Keep track of what you have tried as a reference.
i got the same problem. this player sucks. it doesn't matter if they're burn cd-r or original cd's. i get error 3 when i'm trying to eject cd's and error 4 when going from cd to cd. turning off the engine sometimes work but it sucks during long trips. I'm bringing it in this weekend
My problem was that I couldn't even load the CD's. I'd push the load button and nothing happened. The dealer told me that they don't repair these units, they just replace them. They actually came out to my house to do this! (I mentioned this in another thread). I have been noticing more people on this forum complaining of issues with their CD player, so I would agree that the quality is not the best. I'm just happy that I got it replaced under warranty.
I have the same problem with the changer,it would not let me load or eject, even with no disc in the machine. just says "WAIT". Unfortunely My rx is out of Warrenty, I 've sent it out to get the whole thing overhaul and will post again to let you know the results.
