- 2GR-FE 3.5 V6 in the 2007+ 350, gobs of power and torque with the bonus of having a timing chain and running better on 87 octane (improved knock control)
- Beefier suspension on the 2004+ models, bolt-in rear wheel bearings and more compatibility with the 2001-2013 Toyota Highlander so parts are easier to come by and more upgrades are available
- 5-speed auto helps hwy mileage and keeps RPMs down low, provides a nice boost in acceleration too and is a more reliable unit, 2007-2009 AWD models get the viscous coupling transfer case from the 2001-2003 Highlander
- More cargo and interior space, although the spare tire is now underneath the car which was a step backwards imo. The longer and wider 2nd gen RX gives more room for taller people
Both are great vehicles, but I prefer the 2004-2009 gen for the listed reasons.
Each model, [Gen1, Gen2, Gen3, Gen4] has progressively newer technology and features.

So does this mean that each is just the evolution of the 300? Did the various models ever get sold at the same time? One thing I like with the 300 is the size. I also have a Ford Explorer from about the same time and it is so much bigger.
I like the 300 because of the agility-super easy to park- virtually trouble free as most lexus products-I am 5 6 so it is very comfortable for me-cheaper to buy- 2002 203k miles-
I know my RX300 is difficult to park, due to its large turning radius. My Honda Odyssey is much longer than my RX300 but easier to park in a tight parking area.
When did the various models start being sold and was there a time when more than one of the models were sold at the same time?
Each year in or around October, Lexus release new (next year's) model. Around May June they stop producing last year's models. Every few years, Lexus produces next generation models and they produce special edition during the transition. Dealership typically have last year's unsold models which they discount with December to remember event. Special orders [not too common with Lexus] must be made while the production is on going [you cant special order previous year's vehicle]. The more common are the 'packages' ... pre configured options. IMHO, Lexus packages are reasonably priced. Since you are posting in first gen [used], finding the vehicle with color + options of your choice may force you to either have to wait or make some compromises or expand your area of search. RX is the most popular Lexus line, so there aught to be quite a few available.

Look in the sticky thread(s). You should be able to find brochures for first gen yr to yr models
