I will receive the car back later today and I plan to go take it to get an oil change, and I'll speak to my guy there about cleaning the system.

Also, I asked for him to keep the solenoid he replaced so that I can take a look at it. I'd like to fudge around and open it up to clean the OCV.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, this needed to be done and it is my first time using a mechanic in NJ, so I don't know who won't steal my money...But I hope this guy did well, he seemed pretty intelligent.
Sorry we are still not communicating well. No pan is involved .. If you read the first post in the thread I mentioned ... there is a $5 or so item ... oil filter/screen.

I hope every thing works out well for you.

Also I am not a fan of using or doing something special to clean the engine oil paths. So I would only suggest that change the oil filter and use good quality oil.

I figured you meant the $5 screen/that thread.

Would you recommend changing my oil standard to synthetic?

Is there an oil thread here where I can see why people used certain brands? I go to valvoline for changes near my house...is that ok, or should I be using a better brand?

mom and pop. as hoped, he gave me the old solenoid back. One weekend I will follow DIY and open it up to see screen--however the solenoid stayed open and did not obey computers commands.

I have no interest in reading up on oil, in the form which you sent, but thank you.

I just want to know if there would be any noticeable benefits upgrading to synthetic, when for 13 years, my car has only had standard oil.

thanks all.

If you're looking for a yes or no answer, the quick answer is no. You may just be able to get away with a little longer drain and fill intervals.
