Default P1349--NJ, help!!!

North Jersey.

Anyone know who I can call to see if I can get the VVT solenoid part today.

I am afraid to drive home with low rumble idle and CEL on (reset, and still gives same code, so thats good).

This may have been caused by my last oil change where I noticed my oil went really low.

Replacing this should fix, says mechanic, and he says I wont die on side of road, but he said he cant get part til tmrw.

Any help is appreciated.

p.s. that was the only error code produced.

Have you tried calling some of the dealerships to see if they have it in stock? Where are you located?

He said he is going to call dealers to see. are they going to charge out the butt for that piece for him?

My tech in FL said the repair should run $200...

do you have a lexus tech up here. I'm at one by moonachie, live in livingston. Had a great tech in FL, but skeptical about finding the same up here.

Salim, $140 to replace the solenoid... he says if code appears again, it could be gears or something...idk.

but the error is teling me whole solenoid is bad, and I appreciate your DIY link, but I think I'm better off nipping this one in the butt. I don't want my first mechanic up here to think i'm crazy by telling him to take it apart and clean it.

If I knew more about my car/s I'd do this in a sec, but unfortunately i dont.

thank you!

I would still have your mechanic take it out and clean it. IT could be your problem that your having and will save you money that you don't need to spend if it only needs to be cleaned. If you were closer I would help you and do it.

Great man, I will recommend this to him. OCV is a piece inside of the VVT solenoid? It told him specifically bank 1.

Thank you for offering your help. Much appreciated.

A good mechanic not only rectifies a problem, but needs to find the root cause too. If you had problems with oil, I would say get the screens serviced and that should be the start point. If you find the screens nice and clean, then go ahead replace the part. if you see blockage, after cleaning test it out for few days.

^^Agreed because sometimes it could be a simple solution that is overlooked and you find yourself replacing every single part to only find out that the part only needed to be cleaned haha. Most of us has been down this road before so we know.

This morning the CEL did not come on. I had some symptoms like low rumble idle (but not terrible or persistent) as I sat in traffic, but none of the blinking CEL at 70mph high rpm....no cutting out of engine.

I think engine is just cold and hadn't heated up yet the way it was yesterday, but for good measure I dropped it off and hopefully he will now not produce the CEL and will look for a smaller problem...

any suggestions? should i call the guy and tell him to clean screens? i have no idea what screens youre referring to? the OCV ones?

Please read the thread I pointed out.

You can drop the vehicle with the mechanic and let him take care of your vehicle and pocket book.

You can have an informed discussion with the mechanic, but you have to read and understand.

If you have the skill, tools and understanding, tackle the job yourself.

Let anxiety control your actions.

My best suggestion in your particular case (based on you have dropped the vehicle with mechanic) is to let the mechanic take care of you. Do give him a call and ask that (s)he services the screens.

RX uses Oil to advance valve timing ... OCV .. the O is for Oil. The screen act as filter to keep suspended particles from entering the valve.

Salim,

after i wrote my response to you this morning, I rang the mechanic and told him to please help me out and clean the screens. He said he can open the pan and clean the screens...but I am not inclined to ever check that he did myself. I will receive the car back later today and I plan to go take it to get an oil change, and I'll speak to my guy there about cleaning the system.

Also, I asked for him to keep the solenoid he replaced so that I can take a look at it. I'd like to fudge around and open it up to clean the OCV.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, this needed to be done and it is my first time using a mechanic in NJ, so I don't know who won't steal my money...But I hope this guy did well, he seemed pretty intelligent.

Did you take it to a dealership or a mom and pop shop?
