Default RX problem

my mom's RX key battery died a while ago, and today we went down to wal-mart and changed the battery. the battery was an Energizer CR1616. we walked outside after paying, and we tried the key to open the door... and nothing happened. the light on the key worked, but nothing happened after pressing any of the buttons. the unlock, lock, nor panic key worked. so we were confused. anyone have any idea what's goin on? or if my mom turned off the remote...

on my ES, there's a switch to turn on and off the reciever in the car. i wasn't sure if there was one on the RX. i looked but didn't see one so i figured it's always on like most other remote entry cars.

thanks for any help guys.

I think the key need to reprogram.
Make sure all doors are locked, except driver door and driver door opened.
Insert the master key into ignition and remove it.
Manually lock and unlock driver door lock 5 times( the lock by the inside door handle, not the door lock switch).
Close the driver door and re-open it. Manually lock and unlock 5 more times. Just like you do the 1st time.
Insert the key into ignition, then turn the key on and off. Remove the key from ignition. You will hear the door lock and unlock by ifself one time.
Press the lock and unlock bottom on the key at the same time. Wait for 3 seconds, then release it.
Next, hold the unlock bottom on the key for 2 seconds. That's all and I hope this help.

Default key code reset

Post a reply when you find out what happened. Seems strange that the key codes were lost after a battery change. One would wonder if there is a small backup battery onboard for the electronics memory.
