About 5 days ago, my wife told me that the key would not fully insert into the drivers door to unlock on her 2001 rx300. Went and checked on it and it sometimes I could get it to fully go in usually by flipping the key. I know this shouldn't matter but it was working. I put in some graphite powder in the key hole and it seemed to be working better. Yesterday my wife comes home and said she tried for about 5 mins but could not open the door. It stops with about 3/16" left to be fully inserted. It works on the passenger side and back gate but not the driver side. The actuator does not work on the driver side either so we can not use the fob to open it. I am guessing either a pin broke off in the door lock or something. Does anyone know where or how I can get a new actual lock and will I need to get a new key to open it or can I get it to work with my old key?

I would just fix (piggy back) the actuator and forget about it.

Problem seems to be with the cylinder and not the key.

Could be a prank where some one stuck something and disassembly is required. There may be mechanical damage too but the fix requires either a DIY or locksmith.

Check the online parts catalog and see if you can swap the cylinders [passenger to driver] .. that is twice the work.
